People on low paid jobs are you worried too?

id just like to put that not everyone in the uk does cushy office high paid jobs i work in the mailing industry/warehouse/factory which was well paid. Its not a great job but its better than being on the dole

anyway since the polish people have been coming over half of my workmates have been made redundant and replaceed with cheap labour polish people i myself now fear that it wont be long till i am pushed out in favor of cheap labour my job is not great but it pays the bills and i am trying to better myself by completing nvqs etc

migrant workers are not doing the jobs we dont wanna do they are undercutting us in the wage department and therefore will in time cause more unemployed british due to the fact that the jobs will not pay enough to make people want to go to work.

ps the polish are hardworking and friendly i have nothing against them personally i just dont want to end up without a job!!!

People on low paid jobs are you worried too?
well i am in the perdicument that in my town there is a lot of foreign people taking the jobs i am highly qualified for and it is hard when i am looking for a job only to find when i go through the whole system of being interviewed that they prefer to employ a cheap working foreign person over me who is highly qualified so the answer to your question is i am not worried i am absolutely angry!!!!!!!
Reply:Do you object less when its a cheaper local? You've missed the point. Instead of complaining, join the TUC. Report It

Reply:Yes I am very worried because I wont to get a home and nice car, but along side this i would like to start a family and get married but my finance tells/ shows me that i cannot and it really depresses me. I only want the best from life and provide for my children when I have some but i feel a cannot
Reply:fortunately I am in a well paid job but I do feel for people in your plight. There should definitely be restrictions on numbers of immigrants allowed but unfortunately the cost of cheap labour is too expensive and could have consequential impacts to the whole of British society. Good luck to you anyway!
Reply:You sound a very articulate person, i'm sure you could do a million times better than a low paid job.

Good luck with the NVQ's
Reply:i understand what you mean. a lot of the immigrants, mostly iraqis and polish, are doing jobs that nobody wants such as waste management, cleaning etc and they are ******* hard workers! i never seen anybody work so hard for so little in my life. but when they are being given jobs that english people are willing to do, then there is something wrong in that. at the end of the day most people are trying to work for a living, and i think its a catch 22. people complain if migrants claim benefits and do not work, but also if they get a job and earn a living...
Reply:Yikes that is a tough situation to be in.

You are on the right track though. Getting qualifications and such is the only solution.

In the larger scheme there is always a huge pool of un-educated workers. They work the hardest for the least reward. It benefits Britain to have them here because it makes our industries more competative and because they do work harder than natives. Unfortunately it does mean that un-skilled native workers find their jobs at risk. Business is business, and the country doesn't 'owe' everybody a job. Everybody has to look out for themselves. The government has their hands full trying to help all the people who genuinely can't help themselves i.e. people with disabilities %26amp; single parents etc.

I design automated machinery, and I know that what I do also puts people out of work, but if I didn't do it all manufacturing would move to China and we'd have nothing in the UK.

Like I said above, the only solution is to do what you are doing and make sure you have qualifications or a trade so that you are not an un-skilled worker so that you are a valuable resource.

Your other option is to start your own business. Loads of people do it. Business gateway is a great help.
Reply:yes
Reply:Qualifications could give you more security.

Best of luck with them.

We are all at risk

Best of luck, I hope you feel more secure when you get your qualifications. Worrying is so distructive ( like I'm one to talk )
Reply:The company you work for is at fault, in the old days you'd have union protection but the Conservatives abolished that so that all this could happen. Before you could NOT be sacked to be replaced by a cheaper person.

Join a union now. Get advice from your local TUC office by phone about your situation.
Reply:If you are made redundant and then find that somebody else has been employed by the company to do your job then you will be able to take your company to a tribunal. If they are doing as you say then they are breaking employment laws.
Reply:it will get worse come jan 07 bulgaria joins the EU,we will all be out of work.
