I keep receiving invites from a particular insurance company in my email address to call and schedule an interview date and twice now I've replied letting them know am currently engaged in another job but would love an opportunity to join their company. Yet I keep receiving these invites from their so called manager. Does anyone know if insurance based jobs pay wages/ salaries or are simply based on commissions?
Job interview........Does anyone know if insurance based jobs pay wages/ salaries or are simply based on commi
Some are, some aren't. Here's a clue - if you're not currently licensed, and they're pushing hard, promising training, etc, then it's most likely straight commission. Mass mailings are almost ALWAYS for commission jobs, because they have NOTHING TO LOSE by hiring on 1,000 people! If they get 10 good salespeople out of it, and 990 bomb, no skin off their back!
Reply:Depends on the position.
Insurance companies/agencies can pay many different ways.
Straight Salary, Salary and Commissions, Draw (short term salary) against what you bring in commissions, And Straight Commission.
If you are just beginning I would ask for a salary for about (2) years and then go to Salary commissions after you get a client base. Many agents "fold" after 3-4 months if they are hired on Straight commission.
Reply:Most of these companies pay by commission. There may be a little pay while you're studying to pass your licensing requirements though, depends on the company.
Reply:The invites you are getting are probably for sales jobs and most of those pay commission only. There are many jobs within insurance companies that are salaried jobs, but most of those are not the type you would get an e-mail inviting you to check out. Some companies do pay a small training allowance, it may be an advance that has to be paid back, but for the most part, if you don't sell you don't eat.

Jobs for a biology major?
okay so i really love biology. im good at it and i want to study it, problem is that other than being a doctor, i have no clue what kind of jobs there are for biology majors. I have also considered majoring in zoology or botany, but again i dont reallly know what jobs there are for things like that. I would really like it if someone could lemme know what jobs are available for those 3 majors. thanks a ton
Jobs for a biology major?
While doing graduate work in Biology at my university,
an ignorant freshman biol/pre-med major asked me.
"If one does not go to med school,
then the others go into teaching,
what else is there?
I quickly "educated" her!
Zoology and Botany Programs are often in the Biology Dept.
You will take the same classses for the first 2-3 years.
During your Jr and Sr. year will take your choice of specialized elective classes.
e.g. animal/human or plant physiology/cell biol.; microbiol etc.
I had friends that went to
med school, dental, pharmacy, optometry, vet, chiropactor, biotech, med tech, physician assitants, bioinformatics, organic farming, science journalism.
There are numerous other fields.
A few went into sales of biol and medical supplies.
But this takes a certain type of person.
Some sales people I came across were more interested in that 20% commision than if their product really works.
There is also online/phone tech assistants.
Computers and software play a big part in many industries.
Very much so in biol.
Bioinformatics, data analysis and storage, robotics/automation, and just keeping your co-workers computers running smoothly.
So if you are good at this,
you will be very desirable to employers.
As for myself, I did lab research for several years.
Today I teach (yep the T word)
and do consulting in Ag. genetics.
Best Wishes!
Reply:Come on, everyone is ignoring the obvious. Become a Biologist!
Reply:1.You can teach Biology to others so that they can love Biology as much as you.
2.You can work at the zoo or aquarium and help the animals surivive.
3.You can become one of those genetic engineers if you are into genetics. This is what I want to become if not a teacher.
4.You can explore the Earth and try to determine the Earth's many mysteries.
Good Luck in all that you do!
Reply:There are several options:
- get a teaching certificate and teach
- doing r%26amp;d at agriculture related businesses
- doing sales and marketing at same (get a marketing minor and pick up sales experience anyway you can, and you might actually be a hot commodity with your biology degree).
- work at a zoo or aquiarium (great but very competitive)

Jobs in spain?
If i have an degree in engineering from UofM (in the US obviously) and i wanted to pursue an engineering job in spain, would that be possible? is it possible for people from the US to actually have "real jobs" (not just teaching english/bartending) in spain? haha. i know taht sounds dumb but most of the people i have talked to said that i should just teach english or somthing.. haha. coudl i do anything with an engineering degree? like actually have a job i could have in the US?
Jobs in spain?
I am from Spain. It's possible that you get a real job as a engineer but you need to speak and write Spanish perfectly, otherwise you won't have much chance. That's why you've heard most British and Americans work as a English teachers (better money than bartending, lol). You may be able to get a job in a multinational company, so they may be less strict in your Spanish knowledge.
For the record, Spanish unemployment is 8% now but it used to be 12% few years ago so it's getting better and better. Big cities like Madrid and Barcelona have the best chances but it's also more expensive to live there. Engineer graduates can get a job easily, better than other graduates. I just graduated in Environmental Science with minors in Env. Engineering. I am living in UK now but all my friends who were studying with me in Spain got a proper job in within 3-6 months after getting the degree.
Your chances will depend on experience, languages you speak, IT knowledge,.... like anywhere else.
Reply:With the grammar that you have You would be fired on the first day...please I'm Latina and believe me I'm in shock. probably you speak perfect English but the way you write it you will make your pupils to fail. Sorry I made this observation but I hope it will help you to take a different job. Please don't teach because this require write and your weakness is in it. Hope you get the message. Wish you good luck.

Jobs for Children Under Working Age?
I'm 13 and need a job. Labor laws in my state don't allow children under 14 to get actual jobs and no one really hires until 15 anyway. Does anyone have any ideas?
I looked all over the net and couldn't find anything really. If anyone has some more 'unusual' jobs could they put them up?
Jobs for Children Under Working Age?
Here's a short list of jobs which you can create to generate income:
1. Learn calligraphy so that you can provide handwritten invitations and thank you notes to prospective wedding parties, birthday celebrations, etc. Seek out clients through wedding planners at nearby churches and temples. A starter calligraphy kit usually runs around $20 and anyone can easily pick up this skill. The going rate is usually $1 per hand addressed item.
2. Become a "poser" who assists wedding photographers in setting and arranging various individuals in group and single photographic positions. "Posers" carry around a sketch book of various sitting and standing poses which consists of onion skin overlays of various wedding pictures bound in albums. Again, contact local wedding photographers and wedding planners, accordingly. The hourly pay is around $10-$12 per hour and you are often invited to attend all dining activities.
3. Seek from your neighbors a gardner position which involves planting, weed removal, plant/tree trimming, light brush clearance. You will be using the neighbor's equipment and tools. Again, do not represent yourself as a lawn mower since there are any number of safety issues involved. A door-to-door solicitation of surrounding neighbors is required and you can charge between $6 to $9 per hour.
4. Offer policing/removal or clearance of trash services to surrounding neighbors which involve trash pickup within nearby residential area. Limit the extent of pickup to small areas and be aware that there are no hazardous terrain or elements involved in this process. Again, a door-to-door solicitation of neighbors is in order. You can charge between $6.75 to $7.50 per hour.
5. Acquire a set of window cleaning tools [a bucket, liquid window cleaner, sponge, squeegee, handle with an extension and a small step ladder] and solicit local businesses for your window cleaning services. However, be careful to limit the height of the window cleaning to no higher than one story. Charge $1 per window panel.
6. Become a proxy/stand-in for neighbors to allow delivery of goods and packages to your home/apartment. Acquire the authority to sign any receipt of incoming packages as an accepting neighbor. Charge $1 per each package handled by you.
7. Consider becoming a restaurant-cafe customer liaison by using your cell phone at restaurants-cafes to coordinate with the hostess to keep track of waiting customers. Whenever there's a very long period of time to activate a waiting list, you want to offer the restaurant your services so that customers do not have to stand around for any lengthy period of time. And when their name/assigned number comes up; you can call the upcoming customer's cell phone to tell them that they can return to the restaurant and be served. The call back fee is usually around $0.50 cents on a per head basis. For example, a couple would be charged $1.00 while children under 6 would not be charged. Placement of a plaque which outlines your fee schedule near the hostess station is sufficient to garner attention of prospective customers who will value your services since they can do other activities outside of the restaurant -- often beyond the range of any inhouse paging system. You realize that everyone has a cellphone and why not take advantage of the connectivity to make the diner's experience worthwhile. The restaurant will also appreciate the added service you are providing as a customer liaison.
8. Why not become a paid feeder servicing the disabled at nearby nursing, convalescent, assisted living/care centers and hospitals. It involves feeding food to patients who are unable to feed themselves. The starting rate is $8.00 per hour. The only downside is that one has to take precautions to wash one's hands after each feeding. A posting of your services [by a business card or flyer] on a reviewable bulletin board would be enough to generate customers. The paid feeder position is one of the fastest growing occupation at this time.
Good luck!
Reply:You can't really get around labor laws. They're there for your protection. You can do chores at home for you parents, mow the lawns in your neighborhood, rake leaves, clear snow, etc. You can walk dogs, sweep porches, and do other stuff around your neighborhood. It is ok to negotiate payment a bit, but don't overdo it. If you really aren't satisfied with someone's offer say "Thanks anyway" or something and move on. Most of all, be nice, respectful, and courteous.
:)
Reply:Help people in you neighbourhood pul out weeds or cut grass.
If you swim really good, you could be a swimming instructor, my friends 13, and she's a swimming instructor.
Have a garage sale to earn money, and get rid of your junk.
Or, you could be a newspaper agent, where you try to sell newspaper to people. It's actually not that bad of a job, I worked 3 days a week, and worked 5 1/2 hrs on average each day. I earned about $300 each week for the little time that I worked. It was commision based, so I got $10 each subscription I made, but I didn't like the boss, so I quit. Now, he's tryin to get me back because there's a new deal. He told me that a lot of people are buying the newspapers, $2 for 40 weeks, and I get $5 each subscription.
Reply:check this place out for some cash http://themoneymakingcenter.blogspot.com...
Reply:Have you tried working for your parents or other relatives? If your parents are self-employed, they can employ you and write off your salary on their taxes.
Have you talked to relatives about working? While you may not be able to earn wages, you can be paid in "in-kind" contributions. That's like trading services. They may buy you an out-fit or that new IPOD. The money that you would have used to purchase some item can be given to you in the actual form of the item itself.
Talk to people that you know who may need a babysitter. In the summertime, people always need care for school aged kids that did not attend summer camps.
Or volunteer at the rec center or your church. They could always use the helping hand.
Good luck.
Reply:Do you play sports? Many clubs pay for umpires and referees. My daughter started refereeing at 13 and makes $40-$50 a week

Question about working two jobs?
I have a part time job that pays minimum wage ($5.85) Jobs here are slim so getting a full time job isn't going to happen. I was thinking about looking for another part time job. I was wondering, is working two jobs difficult? I know so many ppl who do it and they seem so damn tired lol obviously that'd be my guess too. But is it really doable?
Question about working two jobs?
Depends on the work. Many new jobs are openning up in the service industry, and these are part-time jobs.
I have worked multiple jobs for many years, and had no problem.
The trick is to have one main job, the reliable one (even if the pay is not that good) and work the other jobs to supplement it. So that the main job takes precendence over the other jobs.
How tired you end up simply depends on how many hours you work, and you could end up working really hard and earning lots of money.
Reply:I go to school full time and work full time (nights about 36 hrs per week). Anything is possible as long as you manage your time well.....(and sleep in the parking deck between classes lol!)
Reply:It is the coordination of them that is important. If you can have them on different days in scheduling, it is obvious it will be the best plan. Do not expect the employers to flex their schedules to accomodate you, though, so try and coordinate everything to how compatible the jobs will be to one another and to your schedule.
Reply:It can be done but it is also a matter of time before this person seriously burn out.
Reply:it really depends on whether you can take it. depending on what hours you work you should be fine. as long as you balance everything else you do. i haven't had two jobs but i work 20hrs a week and am in year 12. i get tired but doesn't everyone.

Jobs in japan??
i am thinking of moving to japan one day but have *no* idea what kind of jobs are available in japan i don't mean jobs just for americans any jobs are good can anyone recomend a book or something that would tell me where to get started??? thanks!!
Jobs in japan??
I dont know of any books to finding jobs in Japan... but this website has job listings for foreigners.... it tell you what level of japanese you need to be able to speak (some dont require any) and they have different jobs from business to waitress to teachers~ good luck!

Reply:Sorry, but this qustion is asked almost everyday!
Japan does not have an open policy when it comes to people moving there. In most situations you can't. They do NOT allow anyone to just move there.
Unless you have a special skill a Japanese does'nt have, the chances of getting a job are slim to none. Most jobs will require that you read, write and speak Japanese at a native level. Few Americans can do this. Be aware most Japanese don't speak English.
Most Americans there teach English. You need a four year degree to do this. This is no-longer the dream job it used to be. There are more teachers than jobs. And schools like NOVA are about to go out of business.
You need a work visa to work in Japan. To get a work visa you need a solid job offer before you enter the country.
Housing is very costly. Most apartments are super small compared to American. Many landlords will not rent to a non-Japanese. They don't want to deal with any of the problems it may cause.
Sorry, but what you're talking about is no simple matter.
You can always go there for a visit. A tourist visa is good for 90 days.
Reply:It is very difficult for foreigners to get jobs in Japan. A friend of mine met a friend from Japan at college, and his friend offered to let my friend live with them and spend the summer there. My friend thought he would get a summer job there, but they can't hire you unless they can prove no Japanese person can be found to do the job (the EU is pretty much the same way). He did end up finding a job, at the Russian Embassy. They wanted someone to teach them English. Because technically the Russian Embassy is Russian soil, the Japanese labor laws didn't apply there.
Reply:They don't want foreigners there. Find a job where you are instead.

Reply:The best way to get a job in japan is to get a job wherever you are that has a location in Japan and doing an interoffice transfer. Getting a job directly over in Japan is EXTREMELY difficult!
Goodluck!

I really need a part time job... I have been searching for jobs since I was 16...?
I really need a job I have been searching for jobs since I was 16 years old, but never found one not until now. Today I am 18 years old I graduated from high school and attending college. I hate it when I see people who dont deserve the job and they get hire anyways and one like me never gets anything. The only job gaved to me was at a warehouse but I dont deserve that kind of job carrying extremely heavy rims, If I have a H.S Diploma and attending college. I need to become independent now, I am still daddys son I am an adult now I want to start my own life. Can anyone help me get a great job? I live in Laredo TX 78046.

Even if you are well educated, you need some experience of the world of work in order to be able to progress up the career ladder.
If you cant find anything else available (try joining a waiting agency or asking in a bar), take the job offered to you, work at it for a while, and then try applying for things with the new experience under your belt. Even if it seems like a rubbish job, it shows future employers that you're not afraid of hard work, that you can swallow your pride and work under people, and that you're willing to do what it takes to get somewhere.
Reply:if you aren't picky you should be able to find a job. bring your resume wherever you go and just keep looking.
Reply:No but we can help you get a first job. Go apply at every fast food place and retail store. You might be missing out because of your grammer - "the only job gaved to me"? "never found one not until now"?
Reply:Try applying at the better sit down restaurants .
Their main business is in the evening , which is usually after class hours .
Good Luck !

I really need a part time job... I have been searching for jobs since I was 16...?
Good Luck !

Jobs and apartments near LA. Any ideas?
I'm looking for a nice place to live %26amp; jobs near LA. My fiancé and I are planning on moving to California next year; we're from London, England and have no idea where to start looking for jobs or a place to live!
We want somewhere near LA, preferably within an hours drive, we have family in Alta Loma so near there would be good too. I’ve researched areas on the internet and areas I’ve seen are Burbank, West Covina, Santa Monica, Whittier, Inglewood. I’m just wondering what these areas are like? Or any other areas that are nice.
We’ll be staying for a year so don’t need anything long term. I’m qualified to work with children and want work nannying for a family or work in a nursery and my partner wants something in retail. Are there any job websites I can look at?
We’re looking for reasonably priced one bedroom apartments.
….any ideas? Whatever you have to say I’ll be really grateful! :)

Inglewood is like Compton or Watts. It is a very very very rough area. Santa Monica is a nice beach community with tons of traffic. Burbank is a nice area close to the studios and Hollywood. A one bedroom in Burbank would go for $1500-$2100 per month. Same for Santa Monica.
Alta Loma is an hour drive east of Los Angeles. Alta Loma is the middle of nowhere.
Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions about LA.
Reply:If you would like to be close to your family..you should look in Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, and Claremont. All can be affordable and are safe areas. West Covina and Whittier are decent choices as well...but Santa Monica would be far too expensive and Inglewood is not a safe area. You might also try Pasadena, Glendale, La Crescenta, Montrose, and parts of Eagle Rock. Burbank too is a good choice.
As far as jobs...you should start sending your resume out to preschools ahead of time...just do a search for the area you are going to and send out resumes explaining when you will be available. Even if they do not have a position available at that time..things may change by the time you get here. Some preschools will hire you and let you complete your ECE units at the same time. (my sister works in a preschool in La Crescenta which allowed her to do this) It would be best if at least one of you already has a job waiting...even better if both of you had jobs waiting. As for you boyfriend.. the best paying jobs for someone without a degree would be someplace like Costco, Starbucks, a grocery store bagger/clerk, In and Out Burger or one of the larger department stores.
Reply:I don't think you guys are going to be able to afford to live comfortably in L.A. with that level of income. Unless he has a degree in retail management or is bilingual, your boyfriend is looking at a maximum of $10 an hour. And in order for you to be a nanny or work in a daycare center as anything more than a part time helper (which makes $8-$10 an hour) you will need to go to community college and get at least 12 ECE units, it can be done in one semester for a few hundred dollars, and at that point you will be able to make $15 an hour or so. But rent wise you are looking at a minimum of $1,000 a month, than utilities will be another $250 or so, than transportation, insurance, food. You will be living paycheck to paycheck with no extras or savings or safety net. Now, maybe you could live with your relatives for 6 months or so, you go get your ECE credits while working and saving, and your b/f takes spanish classes or gets some sort of marketable skill while also working and saving. Than you guys could move out with the skills needed to make a viable income,as well as a small savings.

Jobs in the History Field?
Hello Everyone!
Thanks for your help, in advance.
Well, my favorite subject is History and I was wondering what jobs were out there besides a history teacher or professor.
Do archaeologists or museum curators get paid good money? Are they interesting jobs? Any other jobs in the history field?
Thanks!

Reply:what about historiography? that's studying the way history is studied (do people view things through a social, political, or economic perspective.) i know you don't want to be a professor, but if you were, you could actually continue studying history. you could write on the subject and you'd barely have to teach.
archaeologists do get paid decently, but unfortunately there's traveling and long hours which might conflict with family life (since you're a woman you might find it difficult with a family.) museum curators get paid ok, but i'm not sure that would intrigue you.

Looking for Jobs?
Hey, I have just left education at the age of Eighteen and now need to find a job.......My parents really are pressuring me to find a job....In truth the actual work is not so frightening...As the fact I have never had a job before and find the whole task ahead daunting. I was thinking of going around my City Centre and implying instore for jobs......Exactly how should I do this? In I mean should I just go instore and ask if the retail outlet has any vacancies??? (After this) ... What is going to be the next step? Are they going to ask me to fill out an application form there and then?
If so as I have not previously worked it will ask me to provide the details of two of my school teachers ... Well I don't have this information.....Is this relevant?
Also when I am asking in store if there are vacancies surely I need to look approachable nut not in a shirt etc?
Please, Please this is getting me so upset
Looking for Jobs?
I can't believe your 18 and have never had a job. I worked at an Ice cream parlor when I was 14 then I worked at Spencer gifts from when I was 15 until I was 17. I even had a second job at the local Toyota dealership my senior year of High School. Then I went to college and graduated when I was 20 and have been working for IBM ever since. You should really be more on the ball.

Jobs for 14 year olds??
What kinds of jobs, besides babysitting, could a 14 year old get? I need a job that pays decently, and has good hours. PLEASE i need help. I know people have told me once i start working i will never stop, but my parents said they aren't going to buy me anything anymore. Like no new clothes or anything. Just food and a roof over my head. Idk if i want to get a job at a grocery store, because if one of my classmates came and saw me, that would be pretty emabarrassing, but it it pays good enough, call me stocker girl. Please give me some ideas and tips so that I can start calling around.
Jobs for 14 year olds??
At the age of 14, you can work in small shops, cafes (cleaning tables and things) you can do any job aslong as it doesn't put you in danger eg: in the kitchen also you cant work with money eg:banks, on a till. At 14, they have to pay you the lowist pay, where i live is about £4:00. I had a job in 'subway'. Was embrassing when people i knew come in, but at the end of the day..It showed i was growing up and i was the one who had money to buy nice new things not them! Go for it, ask around in your local shops, hairdressers, cafe, farm maybe, anywhere you like. Good Luck xx
Reply:well i'm 14 also, and im looking for a job 2...my school gave me a packet full of jobs, i dont kno what city u stay n 2 give u any ideas but all i can tell u iz 2: go 2 local alderman office maybe and see do they have any jobs that are still avaliable and if so all u need iz probably a resu'me and a workers permit.
Reply:It is illegal to work under 16 in some states. Did you and your parents have a fight? If not, ask them if you can do work around the house for some kind of allowance.
Reply:allot of places wont hire you until you are 15. try some smaller businesses if it is more of a family organization they might want to help you and your friends are less likely to see you. my husband worked at a plant nursery for a wile when he was very young it pays very well.
Reply:well you could mow lawns, clean houses, walk dogs, wash dogs, wash cars....lots of stuff! Thats the kinda stuff i do when i need cash, charge fair prices and you'll get more bis.
Reply:Depending on the city you live in you can try to look for jobs, but around my area you have to be 15 at the youngest to legally work, and that's just at a few sections in an amusemant park. go see your counselor.

Do Mexicans really take jobs away from Americans?
first let me ask you, do you really want the jobs that the mexicans are doing, like working in a chicken processing faculity? will you work all day in the hot sun on construction, digging ditches etc,?I guarentee the ans to those questions are a resounding no,
so lets see if we can locate the real problem, could it be that under N,A,F,T,A, our factories have moved to other countries to escape the ridiculious union demands? where a man earning $16 per hour can come in drunk or doped up or just plain won't do his job , yet the company can't fire him , I heard a man say one day that they paid him $26 per hour to show up if they wanted him to work they would haft to pay hm more?????what about these companys who out source jobs to other countries , I am talking about good paying jobs , that Americans would do, no one seems to mind this why?if the American co, who have left the U,S, in the last 5 years were still here every one would have a job including the mexicans legal or illegal,
Do Mexicans really take jobs away from Americans?
They sure do, but only the ones that MOST (not all) of us are too fat, lazy, or otherwise unwilling or unable to do given the same conditions that they work under. I'm sure that there probably are a small handfull of Americans who would do the work that Mexicans do if they were ridiculously overpaid, but only then, because people here want to be rich but they aren't necessarily willing to work hard for their money, at least not in the sese of physical labor, especially when being paid under the minimum wage.
Reply:God did NOT make the United States for one race, one language if a mexican or any one gets a job its there job a lot of them are forced to do crime because thers so meany hard balls not leting them work thay are people you are people stop being RACIST Report It
Reply:Mexicans are here to work. They come here for a better future and to proof they can work hard. Employers hire the hardest workers because they are the ones who get the job done. Report It
Reply:yes and its going to continue there're going to be bi-linqual and were not
Reply:Mexicans don't take no-body's job. they just want to live a better life.
Reply:Corporations take jobs away from Americans, and anyone else they feel is asking too much for in wages. That is why all the jobs go to poorer, poverty stricken nations, because it is easier for the corporations to make a bigger profit.
Reply:As you well know, Mexicans are taking jobs away from Americans.
Reply:Well, my brother-in-law used to work in construction, a job that had very good pay and a lot of prestige. He had a nice house and was able to support his stay at home wife and child. Competition for construction jobs was very heated and there was a lot of pride in having a construction job. This was true only 25 to 35 years ago too.
Since so many illegals have come in this country construction pay has dropped out of sight. Mexicans will work in construction for a fraction of the former pay. American construction workers have been put out of their jobs except for the workers, especially foremen, who can speak Spanish.
The problem of outsourcing is much more complicated then you presume. I'm sure that some companies do it because they are trying to increase profits for themselves. Other, however, do it because they can no longer pay the wages that American's get so it's outsource or die.
Yes, there are some jobs such as field work that Mexicans will take and many Americans won't. Who, though, was doing this work before the illegals arrived? I can only presume that it was Americans.
If we need foreign workers to do work that enough citizens won't take then why can't we have a guest worker program so they can come here, earn money for their families and the go home?
Do you realize that there are all kinds of government programs that are ONLY available to illegals? This is insane!! Why do American taxpayers have to subsidize people that shouldn't be here in the first place. Why are we kicking native born citizens off welfare and establishing an entirely new welfare receiving class of non native born people?
Reply:I work in a grocery store union (UFCW) that only pays minimum wage and still takes union dues I also worked at a meat processing plant which only paid 7 dollars an hour and still took union dues so I think you can take the union factor out I don't think they do most real mexicans would live in mexico if it weren't a third world nation
Reply:First of all, your friend is a POOR excuse for an employee...union or non-union.
Secondly, there is NO job in America that the "American man won't do"....It is simply and sadly mistaken. You see, these jobs that are classified as such are usually low-paying jobs that the "American man" CAN NOT AFFORD to do because the American man usually has a wife and child(ren) and is on a limited income. The Mexicans that I've seen that do these low-wage jobs often co-habitate with about ten or fifteen other Mexicans in a one- or two-bedroom apartment and split the rent evenly. They can live like rats or sardines and pay about $20/month rent each. The American man with only one paycheck coming in to support his wife and family refuses to lower his standards of living to the level of Third-world countries.
Reply:when you are replaced by a mexican , like my son was and my daughter who is trying to feed , house and clothe two children, because they work cheaper and under the table without paying taxes, and see your grandkids hungry, then ask your question again !
Reply:Hey not all Americans are lazy...the only people who benifit from this are the very rich...say goodbye to the middle class as more and more undocumenteds come into the US....so up yours if you think we are all lazy...ive done my fair share of crap work for a lousy wage but it was honest and I was legal
Reply:corp.took jobs from americans and if americans really wanted to work then "the mexicans"wouldn't be filling the jobs that they say they are stealing from them.
but, unions are not to blame for companies leaving, our government is.not only would a balanced wage scale across the country make sense,it would also level costs of everyday life.stop and figure if cost was controlled and wages were leveled?why give to some and leave others out?
Reply:Let me ask you this... Do you really like being payed lower because with mexicans working this poor jobs, this is the effect on the economy. Also, there are americans being elimanted from jobs because they need bilinguals to work on the job so they can serve the mexicans. So maybe you need to read a little more on the economy before you ask dumb questions.
Reply:No one can take away a job from anybody. The Jobs are out there and it's up to a person to qualify and apply. Companies/Employers can only offer the positions to the qualified applicants who apply. There are people who feel that they wouldn't take a job if it were handed to them, where others have families that they LOVE and will work where they need to care and support them. It has nothing to do with what RACE you are. People are People ...some do and some don't have their priorities in order.
Reply:First the answer of workers wanting the jobs in the outside conditions.
the answer is yes. there are many American workers who would gladly take this job. I live in AZ so don't even go with the weak weather aspects. Also the workers who are in line for these jobs here in AZ are usually younger American men and women who strive to work in the mining industries. That is basically what the job consists of. The hotter the better.
Also for the idea that companies are relocating across the borders on the ideas of strict union demands is very slim. I have been to several companies that have relocated out of the united states. They are now in Canada, one company being Kraft. They have relocated many of their northern facilities because they have simply found in cheaper to run and turn over profits at a faster rate.
Not everyone supports the Union.
The wages are true. Many people think that they are owed that high pay. For some reason spending 4-6 years in college will do that to a person.
Reply:Seeingclearly has this one and yes, they obviously take jobs away from Americans. They take jobs and other things that aren't rightfully theirs to take.
Reply:Jim you a smart one.
But have you traveled to Kansas, the capital of slaughter houses, and asked managment how long workers last.
I know one guy that took the grind for 8 years. He saw those lousy workers come and go.
Now he is a citizen and runs a ranch of his own.
The American dream baby.
Reply:Tell me, just what jobs won't Americans do? Americans have always done what ever job will support their families..... and Americans still will do those jobs if the pay is there.... ILLEGAL ALIENS and TRAITOROUS corporations, along with traitorous corrupt members of Congress who aid and abet the illegal alien slave trade and also make it legal to export our jobs are the problem....
When I was young, Americans did dig ditches by hand... and with machines.... they cleaned out septic tanks.... cleaned stalls... Americans did it or it wouldn't have gotten done.... that old sh!t ? "who will do the work?" doesn't fly.... Illegal aliens are illegal... illegal is criminal.... the law is being broken by illegal aliens and those traitors who hire the bastards.
ILLEGAL ALIENS do not belong here... any thing they do while here illegally, is STEALING and is a crime....
Reply:Umm, .. who do you think was doing those jobs BEFORE the mexicans??
also... If they were not ilegal then they would not accept that pay wage and the employers would maybe be forced to hire people legally and at least pay minimum wage..Just a thought
EDIT...Let me add this.. I do not have any thing personal against mexican people, I do think that they should be here legally though ....
Reply:no
Reply:It isn't just that, but the illegals get better treatment than Americans do. They get free health, education, places to live, while the working legal residence of America have to work hard just to pay the bills, some can't even afford health and proper education, and if they do they are scraping by or have bare minimum. And the illegals who come over here get everything handed to them. WHILE BEING ILLEGAL!
Reply:of course mexicans don't take jobs away from americans. unions take jobs away from americans.

but, unions are not to blame for companies leaving, our government is.not only would a balanced wage scale across the country make sense,it would also level costs of everyday life.stop and figure if cost was controlled and wages were leveled?why give to some and leave others out?
Reply:hispanics do the crap jobs nobody else wants to do. let them work. its hard enough to find good lawncare as it is.
Jobs for Communications Majors?
Are there any good entry level jobs for Communications Majors in the Chicago area?
I just need a decent paying job (12+/hr) with benefits like health insurance/401k. Any specific web sites other than monster.com or yahoo hot jobs that people reccomend to help my search? Thanks!
Jobs for Communications Majors?
Here are some jobs appropriate for Communications Majors according to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Outlook Handbook.
The job search sites you mention have many listings for marketing/communications, you may also want to try careerpath, or sending your resume to local employment agencies for placement.
Writer/Editor
Writers and editors held about 320,000 jobs in 2004. More than one-third were self-employed. Writers and authors held about 142,000 jobs; editors, about 127,000 jobs; and technical writers, about 50,000 jobs. About one-half of the salaried jobs for writers and editors were in the information sector, which includes newspaper, periodical, book, and directory publishers; radio and television broadcasting; software publishers; motion picture and sound-recording industries; Internet service providers, Web search portals, and data-processing services; and Internet publishing and broadcasting. Substantial numbers also worked in advertising and related services, computer systems design and related services, and public and private educational services. Other salaried writers and editors worked in computer and electronic product manufacturing; government agencies; religious organizations; and business, professional, labor, political, and similar organizations.
Jobs with major book publishers, magazines, broadcasting companies, advertising agencies, and public relations firms are concentrated in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, and San Francisco; however, many writers work elsewhere and travel regularly to meet with personnel at the headquarters. Jobs with newspapers, business and professional journals, and technical and trade magazines are more widely dispersed throughout the country.
Writers and editors communicate ideas and information. Other communications occupations include announcers; interpreters and translators; news analysts, reporters, and correspondents; and public relations specialists
Marketing professionals
Advertising, marketing, promotions, public relations, and sales manager jobs are highly coveted and will be sought by other managers or highly experienced professionals, resulting in keen competition. College graduates with related experience, a high level of creativity, and strong communication skills should have the best job opportunities. In particular, employers will seek those who have the computer skills to conduct advertising, marketing, promotions, public relations, and sales activities on the Internet.
Employment of advertising, marketing, promotions, public relations, and sales managers is expected to increase faster than the average for all occupations through 2014, spurred by intense domestic and global competition in products and services offered to consumers. However, projected employment growth varies by industry.
Advertising, marketing, promotions, public relations, and sales managers direct the sale of products and services offered by their firms and the communication of information about their firms’ activities. Other workers involved with advertising, marketing, promotions, public relations, and sales include actors, producers, and directors; advertising sales agents; artists and related workers; demonstrators, product promoters, and models; market and survey researchers; public relations specialists; sales representatives, wholesale and manufacturing; and writers and editors.
Public Relations
Public relations specialists—also referred to as communications specialists and media specialists, among other titles—serve as advocates for businesses, nonprofit associations, universities, hospitals, and other organizations, and build and maintain positive relationships with the public. As managers recognize the importance of good public relations to the success of their organizations, they increasingly rely on public relations specialists for advice on the strategy and policy of such programs.
Public relations specialists handle organizational functions such as media, community, consumer, industry, and governmental relations; political campaigns; interest-group representation; conflict mediation; and employee and investor relations. They do more than “tell the organization’s story.” They must understand the attitudes and concerns of community, consumer, employee, and public interest groups and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with them and with representatives from print and broadcast journalism.
Public relations specialists draft press releases and contact people in the media who might print or broadcast their material. Many radio or television special reports, newspaper stories, and magazine articles start at the desks of public relations specialists. Sometimes the subject is an organization and its policies toward its employees or its role in the community. Often the subject is a public issue, such as health, energy, or the environment, and what an organization does to advance that issue.

I am scheduled to work at two jobs tonight, which should I work?
I have two jobs, one I have been working with for almost four years (job 'A'), the other I just picked up for extra income and have been with for one month (job 'B'). Unfortunately I was scheduled for both tonight at about the same time. With job 'A' it is overtime and I stand to make about $142 if I work it for the full eight hours. I could probably call them and tell them my situation and they would probably be ok with me not working there tonight.
With job 'B' I stand to make about $48 tonight working the six to seven hours they will let me. I could call them about my situation, but they wouldn't understand it and would probably be upset if I did not work there, because I am one of the few people who could do that job.
I want to call in sick to job 'B' because I don't like it as much and would make a lot more money with job 'A', but don't feel that it is the most moral thing to do....any suggestions or advice?
I am scheduled to work at two jobs tonight, which should I work?
The most moral thing to do would be to explain the situation as it is to Job B. You do not have to go into detail, that would only confuse and compound the situation. Just tell them point blank, I am sorry, but I regret to inform you that I am not available to work tonight. You made reference to the fact that there are others who could work job B tonight.
If job B will not understand, that could be their loss as you are one of few qualified to do job B. If they get pushy or rude about it, give them notice and see how that makes them snap to their senses. If they truly value you, they will understand. If they do not, make it "Asta La See Ya time".
Job A should be protected at all cost, regardless of what job B thinks about anything. If you need a second job, start looking for job C.
An example could be, job A did not understand, or at least got the impression, you could not be counted on and perhaps could mess things up for you in the future. Never, I repeat never assume anything when it comes to how you feel job A is going to react if you do not work. You could be in for a very rude awakening. Unless you are psychic and can see into the future, don't tread on job A period.
Anyway you slice it, job B is not worth risking job A for in any way, shape, or form.
To thine own self be true, and it sounds like you are true and honest to others as well. I commend you on your honesty and integrity. It will take you far in this life.

Jobs in Tulsa OK?
I live in Ponca City and would do anything (almost anything) to get hooked up in Tulsa with a job that pays at least par to what I'm making now. I've been in Safety for about 3 years and have a degree, but I cannot as much as get a phone call back from any jobs open in Tulsa....and I want to live there. Can anyone fill me in on the secret to why there are not many good jobs open in Tulsa or what I can do to get there?
Jobs in Tulsa OK?
I live in Tulsa, but will work anywhere.
Tulsa got hit hard in the IT (computer) world around 2002-2004 and most of us are now either doing other noncomputer work or doing less than then.
I myself am making 1/5 overall of what I made 3 years ago.
Jobs are available, but not neccessarily what you may want.
My own previous work is difficult to break back in...partially due to being out of the field for 3 years.
Reply:I agree with pcreamer... Tulsa is either highly specialized work(doctors, lawyers, etc)... or blue collar. The only other option is sales or telemarketing. Report It
Reply:buddy im from oklahoma to but i live in virginia.in the norfolk tide water section. you arent gonna find nothing there thats gonna pay like it would here heres a few links for you www.roadtechs.com www.polar.org lool and see what zactary is looking fo
Reply:You should just keep sending out your resume. You should let everyone you know that you are looking for a job as well. They could be a good avenue as well. Many companies is Tulsa use internet based job searches but there are still quite a few that do not. Maybe you should also try getting phone #'s out of the book or internet and call up some companies and fax them your resume as well.

Reply:Well, I read somewhere, that a "We sell your stuff n E-Bay",store is the best thing to start right now. You can do it out of your home.

Jobs in Hong Kong...?
I am seeking a job in Hong Kong. Now, I am working as a ticketing officer in Myanmar Airways International. I wanna change my job. What sort of jobs can I get in Hong Kong with a salary like HK$15,000 per month. I dont know Cantonese.
Jobs in Hong Kong...?
Now thats kinda hard, if you dont know cantonese. 90% of them speaks Cantonese. It would be like working in the US, but you dont know English.
Maybe you will still have luck working in HK cause some companies uses English as communication medium. But it will be hard for you to get around.
Brush up on your Cantonese / Mandarin

May I please change jobs?
I am an RN. I work three 12 hour shifts a week and my base pay is $20.65. I want to quit. I am terribly unhappy in my job. Husband and I have $15,000 of debt. I wish to become a receptionist/secretary for less than half of my current pay. As it stands I am the breadwinner. If I am unhappy - so much so that I cannot get out of bed to go to this job - should I stay in it to help my husband. I don't think I can do that. But I CAN work a job that I want to do for a longer duration to help us pay off or debt. So many people make their lives "work" with their jobs and incomes. Do you have any advice for me? BTW, I called in sick today. I absolutely behaved like a child to my husband as he tried to get me to get up and go to work. I almost hope to be fired for excessive absences so that I will have an excuse to get my dream job.
May I please change jobs?
Maybe you should look for an RN job at another facility. Maybe a small practice working for a couple of doctors. Sounds like you're in some kind of drug rehab facility.
My husband was in the hospital for a week just recently in FL. The nurses were so kind and they all seemed happy and they were very helpful and calming. Maybe you're just not in the right place....
UPDATE: Just read your additional comments. To answer your question about working longer just to be happy. Well, we can't answer that for you. That's a discussion for you and your husband. I will say that $$ does NOT equal happiness. Sometimes we have to make hard and scary career choices for our own happiness and health. That's a lot more important than a higher salary! I don't know what your entire financial situation is but you are in a unique position - as an RN you can afford any potential "opportunity cost" of leaving your profession and trying out something else b/c nurses are so in demand. You could always go back if you decide you want to or decide that you can't make it on the pay cut from doing secretarial work. Good luck!
Reply:wow, thats really hard. maybe get out of debt first and then make the career change. Or is there anything else you can do with your nursing degree beside be an RN?So that you can make more money?
Reply:The big question is, why do you hate this job.
You never said why.

Part time jobs and jobs before uni..?
i currently work at a staples store in the uk.. i've worked there for over a year and it's getting boring..
it doesn't fit in with my career plan at all so i was wondering what part time jobs would..
i want to either go into the hotel and hospitality management thing or physiotherapy - know any jobs that would nicely fit in with these?
i'm not 100% sure about these career paths so a family member suggested that instead of going to university straight away i should go to an agency and try out lots of jobs and after decide on one which i am interested in.. what do you think of this? has anyone done this?
plus any other helpful advice would be appreciated :)
thanks

Jobs for the kids?
I'm trying to make up a job/chore list for my daughters so they can earn some pocket money and help out around the house. There are plenty of jobs that my 10 year old can do but I can't think of anything my 8 year old could do.
I want them doing jobs seperately as my youngest can be very lazy and my eldest will end up doing all the work.

there are plenty of things an 8 year old can do, such as vaccuming and cleaning their room, loading the dishwasher, i think at that age it is good for them to be responsible for keeping their own room clean and tidy. i dont see why they cant do anything that a 10 year old can do...just seperate them into different rooms to do jobs in. and give set amounts of pocket money for each job done, this way the younger child will have an incentive to get the work done if they see the older child being rewarded.
Reply:i have a seven year old and she helps me sort out wardrobes and put clothes away ,hooving ,dusting , washing up there,s loads of stuff they can help out with just put one child upstairs and the other down stairs hope this helps
Reply:my daughter is 8 and she has jobs, she tidys her room, puts her washing away, feeds the dog, weeds the garden,if there is no sharp cutlery sometimes washes a few dishes, she doesnt do these in one week but they are a few suggestions
Reply:Good for you, as a child I always had to help around the house, and it never hurt me. My youngest sister would always get away with it, and now as an adult is very lazy and wants everything done for her and handed to her on a plate.
You could get your youngest to polish the house, sort laundry into coloured and whites, sort dvds/videos out, ie back into proper boxes. She can also hoover, she is old enough to do that, what about mopping the floor, walking dog? Cleaning animals out? Help you with weeding in the garden etc.She can wash up, dry up and put away, I think all 8 year olds can do all of the above.
Good luck, and hope you soon have a lovely sparkly house! Children get so much these days its good to get them to help in exchange for money, which they can save and buy something that they want instead of hassling parents for it. Well done mummy!!!

Reply:Firstly, you shouldn't have an allowance tied to doing chores around the house. Just being part of the family means that everyone chips in and helps out. We have always done that for our son, and he gets bonus money for doing specialized jobs - like cleaning the cat litter, doing the garbage, and bottle recycling. We have always had him help out - gee, I think right from three or four, when he could fold towels with us - he would do the small things. Your eight year old should be able to fold laundry, and put her own laundry away. She should be able to set the table, fill and empty the dishwasher if you have one. She could help garden in the summer and shovel snow in the winter. She should dust and vacuum (my son loved to vacuum at that age, and still does -), and help straighten out. It goes without saying that both of them should be able to look after their own bedrooms. A ten year old can be washing dishes, anything already mentioned - I don't see much diff. between the two ages, actually. Good luck and have fun all together!

At 8 years: clean up bedroom, make bed, tidy shoes on closet floor, 'pair' clean socks together, fold and put away laundry, separate dirty laundry on wash days, strip dirty linens from bed, take out rubbish so long as not too heavy, feed dog and cat, vacuum room and hallway, clean bathroom (loo, sink, tub, countertop, wipe down floor), wash or dry/put away dishes, sometimes wash the car, rake the leaves or shovel snow. A bargain at 50 cents a week, but that was in the 1970s!

There are plenty of jobs, though most of them are quite small for younger children.
One thing i would say is don't deny them your help if they ask for it. It really annoys me when my parents do that. It just makes you feel like their ordering you about and not doing anything themselves.

I want them doing jobs seperately as my youngest can be very lazy and my eldest will end up doing all the work.

Do all jobs have a job description?is it legal not to have one?
Been working in a chain hotel as a kitchen supervisor but my boss cant give me a jib description (for 5 yrs) i'm tired of running around doing some jobs which i dont think is not mine..i am a team player but enough is enough..so please somebody tell me do all jobs need a job description??
Do all jobs have a job description?is it legal not to have one?
Written job descriptions help both the employee %26amp; employer. It is not a legal issue, just good business practice for most companies.
I'm somewhat suprised that a hotel chain does not have one in place. they also make it easy for the employer to review each person on their job performance and give out raises.

Jobs Americans won't do?
Several of us have posted links showing that now that Swift has raised wages they are getting a different mix of workers. Someone just posted saying a job where illegals were taken from work is not yet at full staffing when the employer has raised wages forty cents.
My thought is wages may need to be raised more than 40 cents. Farmworkers under Chavez made non-poverty level wages, which in today's dollars would require a pay increase of 40 PER CENT, not forty cents.
Meat packing, as this article shows, used to make 30 PER CENT more money, and according to this article, people waited in line to get those jobs.
What do you think?
Is it the pay, or disinclination of Americans to take these jobs?

Jobs Americans won't do?
Big business Greed without any social responsibility
Reply:Its disrespect. Americans are supposed to run to fill jobs that were kept away from them before? These companies need to go out of business. Stop buying their products. If they love getting illegals in there, well then they better have fun selling their product to the very same illegals. One hand washes the other.
Reply:It's pay, plain and simple, also, even with the tax cuts, the price of meat didn't drop 30% when they cut the pay to meat packers so where did that money go? corporate proifits?, executive bonuses? am I close?
Reply:That is crap....Americans can do the jobs which Americans created , but we cannot support our families on $7.00hr. We as Americans were not raised that way so why should we cater and embrace lower wages because people from a poor and not so well governed country can sneak over and do jobs for much less and employers who hire them expect us to do the same.....
Reply:The economic practices to lower labor costs through legislation disregarding the basic needs of workers in favor of the bottom line is a double edged sword that's cutting all of our throats. Just watched a Tom Brokaw special on the illegal immigration situation with regards to a booming construction company based
in the southern Colorado Rockies that does infastructure/dirt work. He can't get enough legal citizens within their area to meet their labor demands. Not once did I hear the owner say anything about the fact that the 14$per/+bene's he was offering is about a third less of the pay anywhere else in the country. That's where the problem lies--14$ may be twice the minimum wage but it's not the going rate and not nearly enough to lure a qualified worker from another state. He did a lot of moaning about how he had to turn down contracts cause he didn't have the workforce. Maybe if he paid wages that would attract a work force, hed be more profitable all the way around. You get what you pay for.
Reply:The issue is a living wage. Americans and immigrants alike better wake up to this.
Reply:Wages have gone from starting pay of $11.25/hr in 1986 to $8.00/hr in 2006. Thats a $3.25/hr reduction in 20 YEARS!! Our wages should be going UP not DOWN. Another plant here use to start at $10.00/hr, now starts you out at $7.50/hr.
As for doing the jobs Americans won't do. There is no job Americans won't do, for better than a third world wage. Illegal invaders should not be here in the first place competing with Americans for wages.
Without illegal aliens, the price of agricultural products and other goods and services will NOT soar. The definitive study on this subject is the University of Iowa's "How Much Is That Tomato?" The study concludes that 'since labor is such a small component of the end-price of agricultural products (which includes price to the growers, transportation costs, processing /storage costs, grocers' profit, etc.), using minimum wage workers instead of illegal aliens would increase prices of agricultural products by approximately 3 percent in the summer and 4 percent in the winter ... hardly the making of $10 heads of lettuce, $25 hamburgers, $1,000 per night Days Inn hotel rooms like the pro-illegal alien lobby claims.

Reply:In "our economy" which is a military community. Those who don't get contractor jobs immediately after leaving the service which pay upwards of 17 bucks an hour are faced with "AREA pay".
That means starting pay of 6 to 7 dollars with no benefits. That PAY would actually sustain a family in our area as the housing costs are low and with another working family member.....life is OK.
Why do SO MANY EMPLOYERS in our area have problems with turnover? Let me tell you..........poor work performance, bad attendance, theft......shall I go on. The different MIX of workers they cited were probably the ones we face daily. Do you think if I offer "joebob" 40 percent more it will change his "work ethic"?
We have a laundry facility that has a contract with city and Army.......it employs over 65 people......I would say 40 are Hispanic. NO TURNOVER. We had lunch the other day with the owner........NONE. Not one day missed, not one complaint.......just great work and great pay for the area.
How many thumbs down do you think I will get........I say over 6......If I win I will send you a fantastic box of chocolates.
EDIT: Great Vets deserve great pay and are rewarded richly in this community.........BUT service to your country does not automatically include you in "the great employee pool". This community is haunted with the "leftovers"..........sorry to all who are offended by that.......but it is true.
Reply:Pure capitalism, and a comprehensive immigration system solves all these problems and concerns. Any job that "NEEDS" to be done WILL get done in a capitalist society. If lettuce needs harvesting, and Americans are not willing to do it for less than $40 per hour, well then the cost of lettuce will have to go way up, and workers will find themselves picking lettuce for $40/hr. Its that simple. But as long as we allow illegal immigrants (or should I say "legal slaves") to flood the market, and work 10 hour days for $20 under the table in order to get lettuce on your table for dirt cheap, then thats the way things are going to be.
Reply:Yes, they have dropped the pay. Where I live, the only 2 plants to work in employed very strict impossible rules in order to drive out American workers. Then, they hired hispanics, lowered the pay, and cut down the benefits to skeletal proportiions. As I said, these were the ONLY 2 places to work around here that paid over minimum wage. Now, a bunch of Americans are out of work and this place is bringing them in at an astounding rate. 5 years ago there were 0 hispanics here. Now the workforce is at about 87% hispanic. Yes, they took our jobs.

jobs at the school would be beneficial i guess since i can get my work done, etc. but the pay? and also, i think i'd like to get new clothes. better to get clothes at a discount.

Jobs for a college student?
If you're old enough to server alcohol in your state (18 in some, as high as 21 in others) get a job as a server. Ruby Tuesday, Applebees, Outback, any place like that. The hours are flexible, the jobs a blast if you work with cool people, and you can make BANK. You may start a bit slow, but once you get the hang of it you'll make twice what you will at the clothing store, and it's in cash =)
Reply:Hi,
I started my own business while in school through BeautiControl, it's an excellent company. The products are absolutely wonderful and the parties are fun and relaxing. I love all the products, and they have a very large variety to choose from. Please check out their site, it says $179 to join, but this month there is a $179 rebate offer, so it's like joining for free. Amazing offer if your serious about building a business for yourself. When the site prompts you to find a consultant my number is 1029211, or email me at turbin_barbie@yahoo.com for more information.
Good Luck!

Reply:Apply at a few of your favourite clothing stores for sure, or even a department store could have some good perks.
One job I wanted my brother to apply for was at my home town's city theatre, where they wanted techies, box office ticket sellers and front of house staff. I thought that could be fun, good for just a few hours work a week, and you could see free shows i'm sure.
But, if you want to work at a clothing store go for it, just apply around town and see what comes up! :)

Illegals Only Take The Jobs Americans Don't Want?
The truth is that illegals will take any jobs they can get..
You can be educated and skilled and lose a good job and have to take any job you can get in the US unstable economy. At least for a time. Many people have been through it. Illegal populations are much higher in some places like in the southwest and they are more competition for "any" jobs there. And black americans and hispanic americans are the most affected by competition with illegals for the "any" jobs.
So I think we can can call this a myth. And say that there is a real problem with this and that some US citizens are really hurt by illegal immigration.
I don't have an answer. I do know that it will not be solved by big arrests and deportions of illegals or building a wall on an imaginary line. Those are simple minded ideas that appeal to some people on an emotional level. And to hate on illegals is bad and stupid.
Any ideas for this?
Illegals Only Take The Jobs Americans Don't Want?
The problem is that you want to pretend that illegals do not hurt us; but they do. Border hospitals closing down due to illegals using resources. Lowered wages for all American citizens, at least at unskilled laboring jobs. Higher crime rates in the areas that illegals predominate. Stolen identities of citizens, with all of the cost and hassle that that entails. One could go on and on. How to address this problem? Well that is simple: By a three pronged attack.
1. Imprison anyone that hires an illegal for 5 years flat--no good time, no early outs. Five Years for selling out the American worker to greed. For anyone that has had to try to survive on $7.00/hour this should sound about right. For the rest of you...well lucky you.
2. Deport all illegals and all of their dependents. No anchor babies , no BS. Use the national Guard if need be; but deport and deport with absolute disregard for all of the liberal whining that will ensue.
As an added bonus all Asian illegal can go to Mexico so that they can enjoy diversity for a little while--In Mexico!!
3. Militarize the borders. Mines fields and fences keep people IN the Eastern Block--so why exactly can they not keep illegals out?
This would have the added benefit of having to bring our 100,000 troops back from Germany. Germany and the USA would win out.
As to the economic arguments--to hell with the worthless paper called a dollar. Our country is of greater worth than Wall Street, or the Federal Reserve Bank--which is really just a con-game.
And as a point in fact those that whine loudest about my proposals will do those that will never be affected by the invasion from south of the border. Mainly White Liberals and the super Rich.
Reply:better answer below under my name , thank u Report It
Reply:No its that mexicans will do a better job and they work hard for there money period!
Reply:Illegals are not stealing jobs. They are just willing to work in order to make money for their families. If other ethnic people really wanted to be out there on the fields along with the illegals they would be out there. It just proves that the illegals are willing to do anything in order to provide for their love ones. That is what a true family member does. Does anything necessary in order to provide.
Reply:"And black americans and hispanic americans are the most affected by competition with illegals for the "any" jobs.
Are u trying to say blacks and hispanics will take any jobs because they are uneducated?
Reply:Well think about it, if I'm a doctor i don't care if someone enters illegally because no hospital will hire a illegal immigrant to be a doctor. If I'm a unskilled worker , however i do have a lot to worry about as anyone can take my job.
Reply:I agree with you somewhat. But, Illegals are a vital part to the U.S. economy. If we were to kick them all out, in the long run we would suffer. It's true that they take the jobs that we don't want (for the most part).
Reply:Doesn't make a difference about jobs, better life, feeding there family's, anchor baby's used as human shields, It changes nothing they have broking our laws being here for what ever reason, It time to face the facts,The end is near, for the illegals being allowed to stay,We are enforcing our laws bad stupid %26amp; mean or whatever it's the truth and they will have to face it and leave%26gt;?
Reply:I think that the best solution is to continue monitoring the employers. Desperate employees will take sub-standard wages, rather than nothing at all, effectively "under-bidding" the US citizens willing to do the same work, and who can blame them? They want to eat. But the employers who get away with paying less than they legally should, AND breaking the law by hiring illegals--they have a much easier choice. They can eat either way; they just want to save more money.
If people stopped hiring illegals, illegals would be less drawn to the States.
Reply:people who think this are ignorant and are trying to take the focus off the facts--- illegal immigrants are breaking the law ,they are criminals plain and simple.i don't give a rats a ss what they want out of life coming here illegally does not soften my hearts for them.fix your problems in your own country don't bring your crap and trash to ours!! i don't care about you being deported that is what should happen to you and your children.if you are an illegal immigrant and you give birth your child should not be given status as a citizen!!! send you and all your family back if you came illegally, dropping your litter here does not make anyone here responsible for your kids!!! take care of your own!!!don't expect free hand outs cause you snuck into our country it is not our problem!!! if you commit a felony in our country whether you are a legal citizen or not you should be executed, plain and simple!!! what our citizens will do for a job is none of their business and we should not have to take a screwing on wages and benefits cause company's are so d amn greedy!! you see what good that has been!!!! shipping jobs overseas for cheap labor and huge profits and the products are unsafe because people do not have the education or training to make a quality product and no one on either side of the borders are inspecting any products to speak of in a safe consistent manner!!! too much money under the table and bad politics!!!
Reply:Illegal immigration does hurt the US economic infrastructure. Illegal aliens are willing to work for less than an American? True. Why? because of the economic structure in America verses what ever Country they came from the wages the illegal aliens make here translate into a HUGE wage in their “home country” There is no huge influx of illegal aliens such as Canadians or British or Australians,, it’s only 2nd and 3rd world very low income countries who are illegally entering the US.
Remember building the ALASKA PIPELINE?? Wages were Astronomical !! people from the “lower 48” flocked to Alaska as the wages there translated to $90,000 + per year for just driving a truck !! Progressively higher Tech. jobs paid even MORE !! The current situation is EXACTLY the same !!
Transversely,, the American infrastructure is taking a huge beating through all social service programs,, Hospital ER’s,, school systems, all social service systems as America refuses to discriminate based on Legal entry into the US. The US social system burns up billions of social service dollars on illegal aliens who do not help fund that system.
So your argument, “ I do know that it will not be solved by big arrests and deportions of illegals or building a wall on an imaginary line. Those are simple minded ideas that appeal to some people on an emotional level. And to hate on illegals is bad and stupid.” is flawed and shows you have not researched the entire scope of illegal Aliens.
I don’t “hate” illegal aliens,, refuse to… The point is America does have a OPEN DOOR for immigration,,, USE THE DANG THING !! QUIT sneaking in through the cracks in the walls and floors !! Come, work, contribute to the “HOUSE” which you want to LIVE IN,, quit being a leach on the social service’s which are provided through paying income taxes. Income taxes are a nation wide thing that makes all the benefits available to all.
Legal American’s don’t get to live in this “HOUSE” rent free,,, why should anyone else???
Reply:start a new war .
just kidding .
i mean stop america doing new wars , and use the money for the war which is very very very lot of money in making new jobs for people and to help them .
Reply:I really feel that its been building over the past 10 years, people who market and sell things have learned how to pull us in even faster with easy credit, this keeps us wanting things we really can't buy but do anyway, pulled down with credit and no way out most people cant take jobs that start out paying very little because if people did that their would be little chance of keeping up with their bills and credit card payments, this tied with our never ending thirst for bigger and better things that we really don't need has brought us to financial ruin as working class people, so if we cant , not will not take those low paying jobs maybe you can now see what the american government may already know about us as citizens we spend more than we make, so because of that pluse we are lazy now the companys must find people who will work for a low wage, i have a son 18 that thinks unless he is making 20 dollars an hour he just will not work very hard at his job, and he really has no good job skills, so just because he thinks he needs to look rich to be part of the american spending trend,he has a big screen tv, 5 different game machines and a $500 dollar collection of games for each machine, then a truck payment and an extra car on the side as well, all on the credit because his mom did it for years and thats how he learned to do it too, i divorced her 8 years ago because she kept me brock all the time and would do anything to buy stuff we didnt need like 4 tv sets and 5 phones on and on, the problem is americans, they must change or we will all go down the tube soon, that is really what the problem is like it or not its us.
Reply:Yeah, but can you admit that it will never stop going forward unless there is a dramatic sea change in the idea - going forward - that 'enforcement' and requiring ID of legal presence for benefits of all kinds is somehow 'unfair'?
You can't keep giving poor people major benefits and expect them not to come.
So what do we do about THAT?
And to Ryan, education is the absolute point. Illegal immigration is ruining our children's education.
Reply:well first i would like to make clear than in my opinion there is many Americans who in fact work the same jobs the undocumented usually have , the problem however is that as u just said people just do not want to stay working at those very same jobs for long and take them as something they can do while they find something better . i mean what as an employer would u do ??? . i have seen a lot of jobs sitting there for weeks with out anyone ever showing up until an undocumented does .
the solution is simple but yet many do not want to accept it , what we truly need to do is to legalize those who are with out documents in the USA so that they are able to defend themselves against abusive people , people who by the way are American but that misrepresent the welcoming spirit of this nation . we need to allow everyone to have the same rights and we need to allow them to not be afraid to be part of an union of workers and we need to know who is here and whether or not that person is here or not to make a living by working .
just as a note i wanted to add that i had seen many abused and than most of those abused were not even immigrants but citizens with criminal records who by the way may be finding difficult to find a job because of their records , would their situation change after ??? the answer is not it wouldn't , people do not trust them and i am pretty sure that most antis pros and anyone with common sense would ratter have an undocumented nanny to someone who has been in jail .
..................... here something interesting which i found and contradicts what u just stated from fox news the news which most antis trust :D :
Help Wanted: Employers in West Can't Find Enough Workers
Sunday, August 26, 2007
* E-MAIL STORY
* PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION
HELENA, Mont. — The owner of a fast food joint in Montana's booming oil patch found himself outsourcing the drive-thru window to a Texas telemarketing firm, not because it's cheaper but because he can't find workers.
Record low unemployment across parts of the West has created tough working conditions for business owners, who in places are being forced to boost wages or be creative to fill their jobs.
John Francis, who owns the McDonald's in Sidney, Mont., said he tried advertising in the local newspaper and even offered up to $10 an hour to compete with higher-paying oil field jobs. Yet the only calls were from other business owners upset they would have to raise wages, too. Of course, Francis' current employees also wanted a pay hike.
"I don't know what the answer is," Francis said. "There's just nobody around that wants to work.
.........................
Economists say there are a number of reasons why parts of the West are feeling the labor pinch.
Established baby boomers, including retirees, have been moving into Montana for the mountain views and recreation, bringing with them money for new homes that fuel construction job growth, said Swanson.
Along the way, younger people have moved away searching for bigger paychecks as the state's wages still lag behind other areas and are slowly increasing overall. Now, the aging work force is unable to expand to meet the demands of the job market, Swanson said.
He said the problem is compounded by the fact that employers, accustomed to paying relatively low wages, have been slow to increase salaries. Montana wages have historically been among the lowest in the country, and still rank near the bottom. The silver lining for workers is that wages are now growing at the third-fastest rate among U.S. states.
Now, workers with more options in some places are unwilling to take $12-an-hour jobs

Reply:The answer to your question is no.
I have friends that are working illegaly in the US in very likeable jobs. One of them is currently head of a very good restaurant in Manhattan. He entered the restaurant via a contact who let him work there. It is important to mention that first he studied cuisine in Minneapolis. Later on he was promoted to restaurant manager.
I got another friend who's working as a translator for American tv shows into Spanish, so they can be "exported" to Latin America.
At some point in time, I also got some relatives working in very decent jobs with the Dallas / Ft. Worth airport. And I don't mean as janitors or stuff like that, but as something more complicated as technical engineer manager or I don't know what.
I think there are 2 things to consider here:
1. There will always be a sense of helping those of your kind or kin.
2. That a Mexican is living or working illegaly in the US does not necessarily means that he is less prepared as anyone else for a job. On the end, for a lot of jobs the only thing that you need is to speak English, which is by far a very easy task to achieve by merely anyone. If a guy is good, probably you won't mind where he is from. In other words, Mexicans are normally considered as great, qualified work force, not unskilled workers.
Now, does this people who are getting likeable jobs represent a big percentage of the concerning issue? I don't know the answer to this, but I imagine it is not that big. I imagine more Americans loose their jobs when the American companies decide to close a plant in US and open a new one elsewhere, like Mexico, India or China.
In Mexico we also have illegal Americans, Central Americans, South Americans, Chinese and Europeans working in Mexico. I reckon people just don't care. It is common only to see that local authorities take action against European women who are being "used" for strip clubs and stuff.
Reply:It is time to take this country back. If you are not legal, get out!
Reply:I don't think that any illegal has a job that I want. I have never lost a job because of an illegal. There are tons of jobs out there. I think the only way to fix the problems that illegal immigration causes is give them temp. status and let them work, pay taxes and pay fines and they all have to learn english and have their own medical insurance, no free rides.
Reply:More and more jobs in construction are being done by illegals because contractors are too cheap to pay union wages. The H1-B program imports cheap scab labor into the United States under the guise of there being a shortage of high tech skills. That is nothing but a damn lie. Hillary Clinton promised to support raising the ceiling at a rally with Silicon Valley CEO's a couple of months back. The bottom line is that there is a war on the American worker from both illegal and legal immigration.
Reply:Keith, You have other things to worry. Xrays are being electronically sent to India, A company try to send a person needing Surgery to India, but the Union stop that, and In California, Blue Cross is encouraging people to get treatment in Mexico. I've seen foreign labor, and even if they have a college degree they are generally inferior. Frankly they have an third world education. That is why I know so many Doctors working in other positions.
As for the meet of the question, I agree. THe bright spot is that more people mean the economy enlarges. Hispanics also needs specialize services and so they are more likely to spend more. Also Those who are born here has an advantage and because they have a foot on both sides of the door, they are most likely be able to open a small business theat service the newly immigrated and become rich from that. Before everyone thinks Me and Sigy switched sides LOL
The negative also exist. THey are direct competition in the Niche that legal Hispanics has made, but It hurts the African AMerican even more. The Hispanics are locked to their own peope for service, due to cultural and language barriers. Because Hispanics make up such a huge portion of some states, that it kills all other small business. Unless you can cater to the Hispanics in LA, or find another Niche, your company would fail. Small business need to hire people who can translate spanish, or learn spanish themselves. That's hard for Mom and Pop business, or independet contractors. PLus despite illegal's enlarge our economy, they seem to be more of a burden. Study show that African American's pay has dramatically went down due to illegal immigrants. Simple supply and demand means more workers equals lower pay.
For those who advocate illegal immigrants, there are various visas that could bring in labor when needed. These visas has language that ensures that the economy is monitored and the imported labor would not dramatically drop peoples pay. It also helps protect the rights of the immigrant and therefore rights of all. The lessons from the H1B visa is that our government has been derilict in enforcing the rules protecting us from companies abusing these rules.
Reply:The problem with your analysis about the southwest is that these states have unemployment at levels below four percent, but have undocumented workers composed ten percent of the workforce. The number of unemployed in these states is a drop in the bucket compared to the number of undocumented workers.
In reality, what we are seeing is the educated not being impacted and we honestly could care less about the uneducated workers. John Edwards talks about the two Americas, but he has the concept wrong. What we are seeing is one society composed of the educated and one composed of the uneducated.
Reply:Sigy, they cannot have our jobs...sorry. Not today or any other. The only place an illegal is entitled to a job is in their own country. I applaud you for recognizing the myth that illegals only take jobs that Americans don't want because it is exactly that, a myth. I disagree with you that it won't be solved by arrests and deportations but I think there are circumstances that need to be looked at closer in some cases instead of arrest and deportation. I don't know what I think about a wall right now but I'd love for you to go to a place like China or Israel and tell them that their borders aren't real...they're only imaginary lines. No, they are our borders and that needs to be taken seriously and considered very real.
Jalisco really makes a good point about the American lifestyle.
Reply:Yes, Americans are hurt by illegal immigration. And yes it is OK to hate on someone who constantly steals from you until you are broke.
Reply:Yes and whose to say we are not hurt more by the OUTSOURCING companies. My father lost his job $52,000 a year as a telecommunications to well who knows??? Perhaps India or China, people who will granted work the same job for $15,000 per year. BUT do they pass on the SAVING TO US???? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY LINE THEIR OWN POCKETS and OUR costs continue to RISE%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;!!!!! AND SO I CAN FIGURE OUT WHO TO SEND THE TICKING TIME BOMB THAT REPRESENTS OUR ECONOMY%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; WHO IS THEY????%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; WHO IS GIVING OUR JOBS TO THE LOWEST BIDDER IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES?????
WHERE IS OUR AMERICAN ECONOMY???? GONE!!!!!
Reply:The Economy is not unstable. This false assumption makes your point moot.
Reply:The Mexicans (legal or not) that I know are very hard working, honest individuals. They do valuable work, and I appreciate that a lot. The only reason I so adamantly want them to be legal is so they can get the social services they so desperately need. We can't help them if we can't document them.
Reply:it is an economic fact that if we dont have more foreign workers legal or illegal the economy wont be able to grow.
You can be educated and skilled and lose a good job and have to take any job you can get in the US unstable economy. At least for a time. Many people have been through it.

* PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION
