Why are many jobs abusive to teenagers?

There are many jobs out there right now that teens are working in that have horrible conditions and it worries me. A friend of mine once worked at a Party City when he was 17 and his boss required him to do all sorts of dangerous and risky jobs that were inappropriate for his age (such as going up high ladders and into the vents without any kind of assistance whatsoever).

When I started my first job when I was 16 I worked in retail (Rite Aid), but I was right away expected to know and do everything and if I asked something or for help I would get tiraded and put down (verbally) by both bosses and co-workers. The customers really don't help, i noticed that they can be especially cruel to young people. Please don't get me wrong, i've seen plenty of teens and young people who were absolutely rude and didn't do their job right, but for those of us teens/college kids who are nice and do our job right why do people feel it is okay to treat us in such a rude manner?

Why are many jobs abusive to teenagers?
I agree with you. I work at a place where most of the ppl are way older than me and they always assume that I dont know what I am doing.

As people get older they also get less patient.

I worked at a major retail chain and I heard ppl complain all the time. They would also be more comfortable with the older workers helping them.

I believe we feel at easy with ppl we can relate too, adults cant relate to younger people because they simply think they know more than us.

Sometimes it is true though, they've been there done that. Attitude should be respectful regardless of age.

I say just keep your head up and do your job the best you can, ppl will eventually give you recognition for it.
Reply:people are in such a hurry these days that they forget that these kids are still developing the skills to survive in this world. I just went through this with a boy that worked with me. Sometimes you are understaffed or have too much to do and you need to just get it done. I started getting frustrated with this boy. He did a good job, but took 3 times as long as everyone else. I reminded myself that he is still learning in life and while eventually he will have to deal with harsh realities I was in a position to help him. I decided what can wait and do later and spend time with this boy teaching him how to be more efficent. People just need to think instead of react. I do wish more people in general would learn better manners.
Reply:Not all jobs are like this. Unfortunately, retail offers the most jobs available to young people and retail is notorious for bad working conditions.
Reply:Because since the turnover is so high, it is felt that we will get whatever work we can from them before they leave
Reply:It's not just teenagers. Many jobs are like that to everybody. Not all jobs are like that, but it's sad for the people who have to deal with that.
Reply:No all jobs but they're is alot from what i see

and hear

Some people dont think they are smart enough so they take advantage of them

As if they were little kids

They try to communicate

in the way the boss thinks teens understand

"bad,harmful" language

Just because of their age

It is very discriminative

of some people

but that wont change for a while

unfortunatly we can help the world little by little

If it was an older man the boss may respect them more because

They think they are more wise

It is very sad
Reply:When you are a kid. You have to learn the hard way. Especially at work. There is nothing worse than a whiny teenager at work. Suck it up and tough it out.
Reply:Because many of the older managers and owners know that these kids are relatively new to the job market and can take advantage of their in-experience. These kids dont understand if its not part of their job, they dont have to do it, and they feel they might lose their jobs if they say no.

I used to work at the movie theater, and im scared of heights so I hated getting on the ladder to change times etc... So I always said no, you handle it, or get someone else to. They cant fire me for that, and if they try and have a talk with me, I brought my dad in, and he told the dumbass 20 year old manager to smarten up, or he'd deck him in the face.

When managers try to make an example of me in front of customers at my various jobs, and I know ive done a great job, and its not my fault, Ill argue right back. You dont let people talk **** to you.

What jobs would best help residents stay in a a small ski town with out having it bought out from under them?

I live in a small ski town. Like many others it's growing fast. The problem is that rich outsiders are rushing to town buying land, out of place mansions and second houses. Its all cheaper than where they came from but still expensive for locals. The price of land and housing is rising fast. The town has too few jobs that would allow a local to make enough money to afford a house. Many people here are either in construction jobs making other peoples houses or low paying service jobs. Its as if we're having the town bought out from under us. What types of high paying jobs would be good to try to attract to our town? People always say high tech but I just worked for a successful online retail store (website) where super geeky smart people only made $10 an hour.

What jobs would best help residents stay in a a small ski town with out having it bought out from under them?
Maybe get a lot of people together to form a buisness co-op where you could all help each other out by building your own businesess. Business people helping rebuild your community. You can create jobs, get huge tax breaks by employing locals. Create online businesses. Form a land purchase co-op where the co-op owners own the land so you can try to wrest control the real estate market, then resell it to the co-op owners for the uninflated market rate..

Do you think 2 full-time jobs would mentally burn a person out? Do you know anyone who can handle that?

Many people think it would be too stressful to work 2 full-time jobs. What do you think? Do you think some people can handle it? Do you think it's necessary since the cost of living in certain places is high %26amp;/or the fact that a person is a single parent, trying to raise kids?

***I'd like to work 2 jobs after I'm done with college. Many people have the stereotypical thought that because I suffer mental illness that having only 1 PART-TIME job would be too much for me to handle. I've known some people who've had 3 jobs. When I was in high school, I saw other high school students who worked 3 jobs. YES! 3 jobs.

Right now, I'm 23 yrs. old with a BA degree in Spanish, just taking extra classes, trying to get into grad school. I want a job right now, but everyone is like, "What do you need a job for?"

Do you think 2 full-time jobs would mentally burn a person out? Do you know anyone who can handle that?
I had quite a few cousins do doubles on their jobs! Yeah, it's more money in the bank and in your pockets, but it will really tire you out! I've seen it happen to my cousins! They would stay sleep for like half of the day they have off! I guess their bodies catch up on lost sleep! If you do plan to work two jobs, make sure you eat well enough to maintain your energy level and don't forget to drink a lot of water! Fruits, cold veggies, nuts, and a deli sandwich are some healthy ideas for your lunch and a snack! Good luck to ya!
Reply:i know some people that does but i think it would make you get older quicker not age wise HEALTH WISE
Reply:Yes, I think it would be very stressful. I knew a chick who worked a second shift 8-hour job at a plastic factory then went to work an 8-hour third shift job at an onion ring factory. I think two full-time jobs would be too much for most people. If you're suffering from mental illness you really need to think about your health first. Many mental disorders can be worsened by excessive stress. Don't push yourself to the point where you jeopardize your health. You don't have to prove anything to anybody.
Reply:Two full time jobs would be rough but at your age, I am sure you could do it. You would just have to eat right and get rest when you can. My nephew who is 26 is working 16 hours a day. Yes it is at one job but the number of hours are the same. He is doing fine. He does miss out on some fun things but he has a goal and is working toward it.
Reply:When I was in college, I had to work 3 jobs. It translated to about 1 1/2 full time jobs. Actually, it kept me busy and since one of those jobs was babysitting, I didn't mind at all.

So when I finally got my first real full-time job, I worked lots of overtime, then six or seven days a week. It got to the point where I had to tell them I needed one day off. Then it got to the point where I had to quit altogether, because they wanted me to do favors for them, but couldn't honor requests for me.

Just deal with what you can. If it's stressful, then you can cut back. But the extra money is nice.
Reply:Every one is different and not everyone requires the same amount of rest. But I do believe tow full time stressful jobs is a bit too much and could very well lead to burn out and a bad case of depression. Don't forget NOBODY is supposed to work on Sunday either, God's day of rest

What jobs can i look into with a Bachelors in Behavioral sciences?

Im majoring in Behavioral Sciences but outside of jobs working with children, can this degree help me in other fields?

Can all types of degrees get me a job.....i need a good satisfying job in the future but do not want to be limited to just a few jobs due to my degree. Are my choices limited?

What jobs can i look into with a Bachelors in Behavioral sciences?
Depending on which state you live in, you could try working in the correctional field. Though, I can't imagine working with convicted felons being a breath of fresh air to helping troubled kids.

If you're pretty adventurous, creative, and well-written you might want to give Marketing a shot. A lot of corporations recruit their marketing staff from people who majored in psychology and behavioral science.

A lot of entry level jobs will hire you, regardless of your major, so long as you have a four year degree. As long as you feel you can perform the duties of the job. My father majored in Business, but ended up in IT engineering his whole career.

If you like to travel, you might consider teaching English in Asia. The JET program, Japanese English Teacher, requires only a willingness to relocate for a year, and a bachelor's degree. They pay all your expenses and such an experience looks fantasic on a resume. Similar programs exist in China and Korea.
Reply:With just the undergraduate degree, advertising is something most behavioral sciences people have a shot in...

Don't overestimate the value of an undergrad degree - you can get an entry-level job just about anywhere doing just about anything if you have a good personality and interview well. Think about ten dream jobs you would love right out of college and then consider what you do/do not presently have to make yourself a desirable candidate.

When is switching jobs frowned upon?

I have had three jobs in the last ten years. (I've had a few part-time jobs to supplement my income). I've left the prior two on good terms (I gave a month notice for both). This current job may not work out with my part-time schooling and my 3 children (all under five). I also had a review today in which I was marked down on my production and time off. My company allows 4 unplanned absences in a rolling 12 month period. I've already maxed it--and we haven't really hit flu season yet!. I'm thinking of either going down to part time, or finding a more flexible job. (Hopefully something to do with my major --business administration). When do employers start frowning upon job changes?

When is switching jobs frowned upon?
you say 3 jobs in ten years (which is good)

As the EMPLOYER, I see that you had had 3 kids in 5 years meaning that you took maternity leave and maybe even FMLA-so I wont view thinks in the same what that you see them.

As an employer, I think of productivity and MONEY!

Your 3 pregancies and the three corresponding children will drive up the medical rates in a small company. The fact that they are so young means marginal productivity with such a poor support system for runny noses.

Sure it is against the law to ASK questions about your family ect BEFORE you are hired so we put draconian leave practices into place so that we can terminate and keep our costs down.

Is this nice

NO

but is it real

HELL YEAH

At the end of the day- I care about my business

Not you, or your family

So until you get a better back up plan employers will no only frown at you they will run the other way if your position is entry level or hourly!
Reply:The question is very hard !

Reply:You have kids and you are the primary caregiver. There are some companies that hire women more than men, and usually have strong daycare support options. You must seek those in your area. Have you tried getting on board in a government position, or even for a school or day care facility?

Changing jobs is frowned upon when there seems to be a pattern, but with 3 kids under 5, that is an explanation that any parent can quickly fathom. You just need something that can work for you, and it will take some time and effort to research it in your local area.
Reply:I do think that anyone would frown upon a person switching jobs if the situation is handled correctly.

If you put on your application that the reason that you left your other positions was due to upward mobility, who would squint at that. The person reviewing the applications didn't just start out at that job so they can certainly relate....

On the other hand, if you state that you and your mother in law have to care for sick kids etc, employers will run from you like you have the skin legions. Although your kids do come first and rightfully so, an employer does not want to have to deal with YOU not being able to come to work because of a family problem. This translates to a reliable employee and if you dont have a better back up plan, they would be better off in letting you go.

Although part time status might help, the real issue here seems to be that you need to find a more reliable solution to your delima of what to do when your kids are sick.

as a business administration major, you have to understand that not much business is being administered when you are home administering medicine to sick children.

Why not casually talk to other people that work in yoru department and see what they do....

maybe there is a grandmotherly kind of woman in your neighborhood that does not mind watching your kids in a pinch. I work nights and have friends who have needed my to babysit sick kids.

I dont mind for emergencies

so i know that there are others who might feel the same way...at the end of the day, the employer cares about his bottom line (making money in most cases), if you are out that hinders his opportunity to make that happen
Reply:Three jobs in ten years and two friendly departures is a great record. It also sounds like a place right now that is not very supportive. Does your area have a publication that rates the "best places to work" - those can be cool about rating employers on top employee benefits and amenities and just supportive attitudes - find out if there is one and look at those companies that are "family friendly", But back to the main topic - these days your stats still look good, so you are not considered a "job-hopper" at that rate. Now taking a bunch of jobs and then dropping them right away is bad, so it switching more than once a year! As long as you logged a year or two, it shows you gave it a good try. If one of these was shorter - hey, you have two really long stretches of employment to show you are loyal and considered a good employee. If these folks are going to slap you around for issues you cannot completely control, then you will need to change jobs before they put anything more nasty in your folder (thought they are not shared with new employers, they can limit your future with the current company if they want to be jerks about it).

Any ideas regarding jobs in the field of international business?

I just finished bachelors in international business. i do have work abroad experience. i have a job right now but its not related to my field, and neither am i enjoying. Any idea on how to enter the jobs in this field. some traveling job, or any other international job. i enjoy traveling, and working around the globe. anyone know a place to hunt for jobs for international business. thanks for your help

Any ideas regarding jobs in the field of international business?
1. I really prefer this webpage from Eastern Oregon University as far as its usefulness in job searches and in phrasing the question you have posed.

2. Also Reaction Search in San Francisco for example is an active international business recruiter. There are thousands of recruiters sites globally where you should consider posting your resume.

3. Also the best method for job search appears to me to be targeted word searches for example: "international business majors" CV

4. Also you need to tailor your resume to highlight uniqueness of your offering. I can send you a sample later in the week if you write a message to me.

What jobs could she have?

ok, my neice is 12 yrs. old and she wants a job and i don't mean a realy job will all the paperwork and stuff, just like and kid job for example raking leaves stuff like that but her mom (my sister) does not wanna let her do that stuff until she is 13 which she will be in like a month (apparently to my sister, my neice has to mature within a month.....lol) anyways i told my neice that i would try to convince her mom to let her do it earlier so what are some jobs that she could have?

i already covered the basics like raking leaves, keeeping the house neat, etc. so what are some other options for her????

What jobs could she have?
Many 12 year olds babysit or act as a Mother's Helper! Of course there is also dog walking, deliver papers, gardening, snow shoveling, getting mail for out of town neighbors.

But your sister may also start with "paying" your niece for jobs around the house. She can get an allowance is only if she... folds laundry, cleans the bathtub, does dishes. etc.

What's the dirtiest job you've ever had? What kinds of dirty jobs have you heard of?

I love that show "Dirty Jobs" with Mike Rowe. I was trying to think of the dirtiest job I've ever had, and I have to admit . . . my jobs have all been clinically clean compared to what he does.

How about you? What is the dirtiest job you've ever had? And what are some dirty jobs that you've seen or heard of?

What's the dirtiest job you've ever had? What kinds of dirty jobs have you heard of?
Dirtiest job I've ever seen: The sewage delivery guy. No, you didn't misread...DELIVERY.

I worked on a sparsely manned Air Force communications site, separated from the main base. It used to have more folks, but technological improvements meant less need for personnel.

We didn't produce enough sewage to feed the enzymes in the sewage tank. That's right, we didn't poop enough to keep the enzymes alive.

Our main base would send us weekly deliveries of sewage, in a tanker truck...and pump them into our sewage tank.

Many veterans will tell you that their higher headquarters gave them poop on a regular basis. As far as I know, ours was the only one to send it in a special tanker.

What are some good jobs that allow me to travel? And how do I get into them?

What are some good jobs that allow me to travel? I know there are some people who travel in job to visit different places in order to review hotels, sites, places. And there are other jobs who go to promote travel, tourism, etc for their jobs. What are some of the titles for these jobs and what are the requirements? Also, where would be a good place to start? I'd like one where I'd get paid to travel in regards to my job.

What are some good jobs that allow me to travel? And how do I get into them?
LOL, those jobs are very few and far between- I mean, who wouldnt want to get paid to be on vacation year round, right? You've got about as good a shot of getting one of those jobs as you do hitting the lottery. Instead, you would likely have to get a real job, where you travel somewhere and then dont see anything other than the inside of the office you are working in, the local resteraunts, and your hotel room. If you really want to do that, then a lot of Sales jobs, and a lot of management, IT, and consulting jobs require travel. Travel jobs are not real hard to find, if you have the education.

Does having a lot of jobs on your resume (job-hopping) look good?

I always thought job hopping was a negative, but my husband has a friend who never stays at a job for more than like 3 months. She gets a job and after about 2 months starts looking for a different one. The thing is, new places keep hiring her, so apparently the job hopping is not affecting her negatively. I have jobs I've stayed at for a year and when I have interviews they ask me why I was there such a short time. My husband's friend works places for 3 months at a time and has no trouble moving to something new. Then my husband was like, "her resume must look incredible". But I always thought job hopping was considered a negative thing.

Does having a lot of jobs on your resume (job-hopping) look good?
I'm going to post in with a different opinion. I might get shot down for it, but here it goes.

Not sure what qualifies as job hopping, but I've had 5 positions in the past 10 years. This includes a company that I left and then came back to. In that time, my salary has almost tripled. Each jump that I made was for 5-10k more money and a better opportunity at the time. In two instances, I received "performer of the year" bonuses and awards just before I left the companies.

In the first three jobs that I left, co-workers told me I was foolish to be walking away. But they were calling me for job leads later when contracts were cut, or job duties were outsourced.

Companies cannot have loyalty to their employees. Global competition has forced every company to lean up. There are thousands of people in the world who have the skill to do any job, and many of them are willing to do it for less than you are making. All it takes is a consultant who shoves a push pin into a pie chart and people are dismissed in a cost savings move. You've got to be on the lookout all the time. When you see the warning signs, be ready to jump and be ready to jump quickly. The warning signs that I have seen which served me well in the past are:

* When your company is spending too time on trying to document past successes and not trying to create new opportunities.

* When your supervisor creates a 12 month work plan for you, and it gets sparse about 4-6 months out.

* When you see the real high achievers in an area begin to look and jump.

* Note that I don't list long hours or tough work as a sign to jump. As long as a company is achieving results and those results are being shared with you, ride that wave. It doesn’t last forever (and don't think that it will), but get involved in high impact projects and document the results. When things do a downturn, you'll have some great resume lines. Nothing makes a hiring managers eyes light up like having "Increased revenue on project X 300% over 6 months" or "Instituted cost savings that cut item Y by 63%".

One thing to remember is that managers and HR often look for different traits in employees, from my experience. HR wants a long term, stable employee who isn't going to be a problem. Good managers want "fire breathing dragons" - people who will do whatever it takes to get the job done and who will contribute on day one. They want people who aren't afraid to go out on a limb, even if they know that this type of employee will probably jump in a couple years. Keep in mind that most of them are looking for their next career move. They plan on being promoted in the next year themselves.

I hope this helps to give another perspective on the issue. I never wanted to be considered as a job hopper, even though I probably am. I'm not alone in these feelings - check the links below.
Reply:I used to work in recruitment and job hopping is definitely a negative thing to see on a resume.

Unless she is constantly working on a temporary contract and has it written on her resume that they were temporary contracts, this will look bad.

NO employer wants to go to the trouble of recruiting someone for a position, only to have them leave 3 months later and have to go through the whole process again.

As a former recruitment consultant, we were told that staying in a permanent, full-time job for 12 months or less was suspicious and we had to question them as to why they had left the job so soon.
Reply:I consider it a negative thing. It may not seem like it affects her now but down the road when she is older and needing something long-term and secure employers will turn the other way from her.

She needs to learn to be more secure and willing to settling with a particular company instead of jumping ship within three months. To me that looks immature, unprofessional, and ill-educated.
Reply:first off

who knows what kind of jobs she is hopping from

they must not be that great if she keeps leaving them....no one is going to "HOP" from jobs that pay 65k to one that pays 66k

so consider the source and the kinds of jobs that she is hopping to

then constrast that to the types of jobs that you are trying to go to ....

it might be the case that she is making lateral moves and you are moving up

Everyone is different

but I suggest that you do your best to put some space between your husband and this 'friend'

she sounds like trouble...she uses jobs like toliet paper so it wouldnt be a stretch that she would use people like that too....

for some reason, your husband seems to think she is much more than she is...her resume looks like 'shyt' and we both know it....could it be that he sees something else that he thinks is incredible

At the very least your husband is not very sensitive by telling you about this chick knowing how you are looking to move up the ladder and the challenges YOU have faced during interviews

If she was such a friend, why wont she share some of the secerets that have eluded the rest of the world since time began...this stinks
Reply:It is a negative thing. I'm sure her jobs are all retail and entry-level, too? She must be hiding a lot on her resume/applications because I wouldn't hire her.

Men and women "jobs" in the home?

My man and I are currently having a "debate" in which he says it is a woman's "job" to do the food shopping. I gave the scenario that if I'm working late, and there's no food in the house and I don't get home from work until 7 and he's been home since 4, he should do the shopping. He says I should go the next day for shopping. It's also "my job" to do most of the cleaning and cooking (though he dare not say I'm supposed to do all of it). I say its the job of who ever has the time and opportunity to do it.

In return, though, he says its the man's "job" to do the gutters and the lawn mowing (and other outside work).

Does this seem like a fair trade off? Or should we not have "men's" jobs and "women's" jobs.

Men and women "jobs" in the home?
So let me get this straight, you both work, yet you do all the cleaning, cooking and shopping and all he has to do is clear out the gutters and mow the lawn (like what, once a week?)

Jeez that's a cush deal he's got, hope he knows it. Doesn't seem like he does, y'know since its your "job" and all. Pfft.

btw the idea that a man is more physically suited to gutter cleaning is ridiculous. I guess i see the point though, y'know our weak skin could burn in the sun and our poor legs might buckle trying to climb a ladder. Hell, in fact, I'm not sure we are physically capable of pushing those heavy shopping carts around the grocery store. And washing dishes?! hah! what if we dropped a plate due to our weak physique and cut ourselves, we might DIE!
Reply:He may be right. Men can't shop. I sent my husband shopping one day when I was sick, and it took him about 3 hours to come home.Although my husband is a wiz at washing clothes, ironing, washing the floor, and cooking. So I prefer to go food shopping myself.
Reply:I believe in equality. And so does my man.

If I go grocery shopping, you best be sure he'll vacuum the apartment.

If I cook, he will take care of the dishes.

If he cleans the bathroom, I'll do the laundry.

It's only fair. I don't believe he's less capable of cleaning the bathroom than I am. It's pretty simple, isn't it?

I also don't believe I'm less capable to mow the lawn. It's pretty easy too! :-)

I think classifying household tasks into women's and men's categories is extremely backwards and sexist.
Reply:I say the person that gets the hungriest should do the grocery shopping. :)
Reply:Back in later times, when it was odd for women to work, things around the house became "a woman's job" mainly because the man was not home to help.

After women started to get jobs, a lot of men still believe that certain things such as cooking and cleaning is a female job because of tradition.

The right thing to do is to split the chores up equilly because the 70's are long gone.

If you do the grocery shopping one week, he should do it the next.

If you wash the dishes then he should dry.
Reply:My house is seriously into gender jobs and most of this is down to my mom. She spoils my dad and my younger brother big time and just mothers them both, and worst of all she then gets me to help her do this.

Seriously once some friends had asked me to go to the mall with them and I said yes and then she told me I'd have to cancel so we could clean my brothers, YES MY BROTHERS, room together because he and dad had gone fishing and so it would be a good time to do it. If I argue she tells me that I am just not helping out.

What chores does my dad/brother do. My brother not much, a bit of yard work maybe. My dad is meant to do maintenance but they usually get someone in to do a lot of repairs anyway. Even our windows are cleaned by someone else lol. So I am not sure, my mom says he is the bread winner and thats enough and we should be thankful for him for that!

Jess
Reply:I would do anything as long as I don't have to clean the toilet, that is gross.
Reply:Do you really want to do gutters? You sound as if you have little experience of gutters.

" men's jobs " are those that women can not do as well physically. ( Oh, that's right, you are an Amazon!! )
Reply:i agree the shopping should be done by the person that is at home and not wait me and wife share jobs
Reply:Personally, I'd rather mow the lawn than do the shopping (cringes- I hate shopping!)

I think you guys should do whatever you want to do. If he has the time to go food shopping, then he needs to do it not because it's "his" job...it's a job and it needs to be done.

If the gutters need to be repaired and he's at work, get your butt on a ladder and fix 'em. Not because it's a "women's" job...it's a job and needs to be done.

That would be the *ideal* situation. In real life, however, I doubt my man would want to go to Safeway after work, and I really prefer for him to wax the cars lol.
Reply:Cooking needs to be done every day. It is a daily activity, like EATING. There are pots and pans and cutlery that need to be cleaned every day in preparation for the following day. Season is irrelevant because EATING is a daily activity. Groceries (food) must also be procured often because EATING is a daily activity.

By contrast, gutters, lawns, and other outside work is not done every day. In fact people only their laws every two weeks in the summer. This kind of work is both infrequent and seasonal!

You are getting the shytty end of the stick here.

edit:

If he gets off work so much earlier than you and expects you to do the grocery shopping and cooking then I would oblige him. Go shopping and stock up on Swanson's microwavable dinners. When you get home nuke a couple and sit back, in full relaxation mode. He will be climbing the walls within a week looking for real food, and he will go grocery shopping and help with cooking and cleaning up afterwards. Otherwise, just continue the strike until he caves in. Its just a matter of time; don't forget you hold ALL the cards because he wants something from you. Without your cooperation that 'something' he wants (a home-cooked dinner) won't materialize.
Reply:if you are both working then you should both be doing things in the house as well. ask your man if he would prefer it if you give up your job and stay at home, since he has such a 'traditonal' view of relations between the sexes. if the answer is 'no', then suggest to him that he pull his finger out and start doing more around the house.

And no, it is not a fair trade-off that he does the outside work, since things like mowing lawns etc need to be done infrequently, whereas cooking, cleaning, laundry etc are ongoing jobs that need doing every day, more than once.

you really need to stand up to this man, he is treating you like a slave, which he has no right to do. he has obviously been very badly brought up. i would be absolutely horrified if any of my sons had this attitude towards women, I can't imagine what his mother was thinking of to raise him like this.
Reply:It is logical if the person who cook for the family do the shopping, because that person knows what are the things that should buy. But when it comes to cleaning I think anyone who has enough time, should do the work.
Reply:Well I don't think gender has a place in the household chores. Splitting them up is fine, but I would be weary of a man who has 'women's work' and 'man's work'. What else does he apply to his thoughts on 'gender roles'?

My fiance and I do chores as they come up. Sometimes I take out the trash and sometimes he does dishes. But I'd have a hard time loving him if he thought that dishes was my job as a woman. *shudder* :)
Reply:Do whatever is necessary when it needs to be done. Your bf should do at least some shopping for that night if you two have nothing to eat. Try to let the gender roles out of this and use common sense and courtesy.

Also, do you have gutters and lawn at this time or are you living in a condo?

***

Yes, I know where you live because you told me... that's why I said... at this time. ;-)

And I mow my lawn and clean my gutters... but there's always stuff to be done around a house, plenty for the both of us.
Reply:I don't think there is a man and woman's job. Personally I like to be in control of everything so I usually do all the shopping and cooking. I was just raised to be self sufficient so I am just more comfortable with it. It may sound crazy, but I feel uncomfortale being waited on, plus if you do it yourself it will be done right. My women have it easy.
Reply:It depends upon who is better at what. My husband is a neat freak while I'm a slob, therefore he does most of the cleaning. I enjoy cooking so I handle dinner most days. He hates outdoor work while I enjoy it, so I mow the lawn, shovel the snow and rake the leaves. We both hate grocery shopping, but he doesn't drive so I just hit the grocery when I'm out running errands and grit my teeth and bear it. But he doesn't get to complain when I bring back food he doesn't like. I handle plumbing problems because plumbing grosses him out, and he handles the electrical work because he likes playing with electricity and I think he's crazy. He does most of the wiring for electronics because he's neater at it than I am, plus I have to do it at work all day and prefer not to have to deal with it at home.

We work it out so each of us does what we like, and the stuff that's leftover that we both dislike, well, we either take turns, negotiate, or try to wiggle out of doing it somehow.
Reply:I would much rather go shopping than clean out the gutters or mow the lawn. Still, if he has time to go shopping, he should at least pick up what's needed for a day or two until you can go.
Reply:I bet if you stop going to the grocery store entirely (stop and eat dinner yourself on the way home), he'll change his tune pretty quick when he gets hungry. There's no excuse for that.
Reply:It would seem a good idea to have a discussion before a serious relationship about which partner does which job.

I just informed mine that I would never argue about gender based jobs around the house.

If it needs to be done then do it. Don't complain to me!!!

I will do what I see needs to be done as well.

Such a waste of time to argue about the mundane.
Reply:It's good to divide the chores equally, but why must he bother assigning genders to them? You might be just as good as mowing the lawn as he is, after all.
Reply:I don't have this problem in my household. My husband often picks up groceries on his way home from work and he never complains nor does he somehow think that is an insult to his masculinity. That's because he likes cooking and shopping a lot more than I do. In return, I'm the one who mows the lawn and does the yardwork. We don't divide up the chores based on our gender but who likes doing it more and who is better at it. He's much better at cooking so he does it and I am better at doing yardwork. In fact, I do the majority of outside work and I like doing it. I would be absolutely miserable if I were married to someone who believed I should be inside cooking and cleaning because I really hate doing those jobs.

Edit: Guess who goes up on the roof to put up Christmas lights? That's right, it's me. My husband is terrified of heights and I'm not so I'm the one who goes up there every year to put up the lights and then a few weeks later, take them down.
Reply:Anything that works for the couple. It's foolish to narrow it down to a "woman's job" and a "man's job", because that just puts restrictions on the couple. The couple should do what is convenient, what they agree on, and what they are good at doing.

I'm so glad I stopped bothering with the dating world!
Reply:He knows it's not a woman's job, he just wishes it wasn't his job, so he's trying to put one over on you by picking the cool, seasonal work rather the daily drudgery. There are many ways you could play out this argument, including going on strike, only buying the foodstuffs you like at the store, offering him household services in return for financial recompense at the rate you would be paid at work, etc, etc... My own experience is that very little works in the household coercion stakes - you can try ultimata and then leaving him if he simply refuses, but it may be that if you want to stay with him, you are always going to have to pick up more than him - it's not fair, but that's my honest experience of 'housework refusers'!
Reply:I'm really interested in this question because to me it seems natural that some jobs would be done by the woman and some by the guy, because of our inclinations to do different things. But my mom is a total equalist on this. Being a bit older than my sister I got more chores put on to me first, but as she has got old enough too, they've equaled out more but it's all rotated so no one does the same job all the time. I have to help my mom shop sometimes and so does my sister. Sometimes I have to help with laundry or even iron clothes, and other times I do the yard work. I don't mind most of it, but ironing I seriously don't think is guy work. I don't know any other guys that have to iron stuff and I'd be really embarassed if anyone found out.

Air force jobs?

air f cvorce jobs i read that so many people join the air force that people rarely get the job they really want or have to be really flexible with their job selection

so what jobs are avialable without being on a waiting list

if i join im looking into Spec Ops (combat control) if not possible then do Security forces if not that then Sere instructor

so hows the waiting list or how hard is it to get in one of thoes jobs ?

thx

Air force jobs?
SF will be easy to get, if your asvab score is good enough.

Thts one of the jobs, that if you fail Tech School, you get sent to.

Combat Control and SERE are under manned,

But thats because they are so selective and so many people fail training.

For both, you will have to pass a Physical selection test, before being selected. Basicly just like the physical selection test to be a navy seal.

Both have a high drop out rate.

Combat Control has around a 80% drop out rate.

SERE has a high drop out rate, but they are very selective on who they let in.

They will want a face to face interview during basic.

You have to be mature to be SERE, since your training people.

Your gonna have to wait, for any job, no matter what it is.

They schedule you to go to basic, so you graduate, right before your Tech School starts.

Some jobs only have 5 or 6 class's a year start.

Some like Combat Control or SERE, might only have two class's a year start.

I know SERE class's only start in Janurary or July.
Reply:jeeper's answer is pretty accurate

If you score high on the ASVAB then you will have more choices. MEPS will tell you what's available for the date that you would like to ship out.
Reply:Most jobs in the Air Force (non flying) are in support of the people and equipment that do the job needed. Cooks, typists, computer types, mechanics, payroll clerks....ect. Air Force combat and war is carried out by aircraft at a distance. Any special ops are few and far between.

You want to be a spook, join the Army or Marines where eyeball to eyeball combat is the norm.

Teen Summer Jobs(specifically in WA)?

Hey, I'm going to be turning 16 in August and was wondering if anybody had any answers to some of my questions about summer jobs.

First, i had some questions relating to working in a library in the King County Library System:

How old do you have to work there, what would a possible position be, and what are the requirements for an applicant?

Another question has to do w/ working at the mall during the back to school season:

I was thinking about working @ Pacsun during this time, and have already read that they DO accept 16 yr olds, what are my chances of getting a job w/ them?

if you have any other possible job ideas for this summer, that would be really great, and PLEASE dont give me any of the teen job websites, ive looked at most of them and there aren't too many teen job opportunities in my area.

THANKS:)

WelI I actually take surveys for cash. And yes they do pay as long as you know the good ones. I have some free survey sites that are very reliable just check out my profile by clicking my name or email me for them. I only give sites that I've been paid by so you won't get scammed. They're all reliable and I've never had a problem with them. (I've been doing them for a year now) The best part is that anyone can do them and they're easy. You won't get rich but they definitely help with bills :)

Job searching, what types of jobs am I qualified for?

I just graduated from college and earned a bachelors of arts in sociology and I was wondering what types of careers am I skilled to apply for? Also, it seems like there arn't that many jobs for college graduates that don't require you to have more than 3 years of experience. I am finding it hard to find a job where you don't need experience for other than sales positions which is not something that I would be interested in. I am wondering where to look for jobs other than hotjobs and monster. Where did you guys find your careers from and did you have a hard time deciding what you were qualified for?

Job searching, what types of jobs am I qualified for?
I am sorry to say but Sociology was kind of a useless degree. You need a masters in that do anything and usually research. you can work for child protective services as a case worker or group home kind of thing. There is no job that says you need to have sociology degree

Sorry to anyone that reads this that has that degree
Reply:my boyfriend graduated last may with an busn/econ degree and has had a lot of trouble findin a job as well. Honestly I think that hotjobs/monster are all BullShit. Half of them are scams and people on the other end never even look at them. Try Craigslist I've had some luck there. Also I would say try to do an internship this will give you a good refrence and some extrat experience. If you are interested I would try to get into social work, and work your way up. Its tough. I am finishing up my associates degree and deciding wheter to continue and spend the money for a bachelors because everyone i talk to struggles to find a job when they graduate... goodluck on your search!

Jobs in Mid-Western United States??Alabama, Wyonming, Nebraska........????

I was wondering what jobs pay out there and what housing cost out there. I mean, I live in Richmond, VA and Cost of living here is high to me compared to living in Alabama.....(where fam lives) But i don't know how the pay is...... example..... For customer service job, with just high school diploma you can get a 13.00/hr job and move your way up....but cost of living is 500-800.00/month for a one bedroom apt. (on all sides of town) I could live on that side of town for 650.00/month but give I have other bills too. At 13.00/hr full time.. that's not working.

So if cost of rent in Alabama is 300.00/month, does that mean that the pay down there is lower? like instead of 13.00 it might only be 9.00/hr??

My thing is, If I move to another state and find an apt for 300.00/month can I get a job that still pays 13.00/hr???? How does that work. Someone who lives in these lower housing cost states let me know. Virginia is an expensive state to live in.

Jobs in Mid-Western United States??Alabama, Wyonming, Nebraska........????
In general, the cities pay more money and you have to pay more to live there. Small towns have lower pay and costs.

By the way, I'm from Wyoming and I'll tell you Alabama and Wyoming are NOT midwestern states.

FYI, Mississippi and South Carolina are the poorest states, and I think Wyoming, Montana and the Dakotas are the sparsest population centers.

The bottom line is that lawyers and doctors make more than teachers and janitors. You want to get paid? Go to school.

What good jobs are available for a convicted felon?

My brother is having a hard time finding a job because he is a convicted felon. He is off of paroll now though. I know that the construction field is always an option and also operators union or any of the others. But with our economy facing recession that might end up not being so good of a choice because those jobs depend on our economy. Does anyone have any suggestions of a career he could go into? I've thought maybe Edison or Waste management (garbage guy) but i'm pretty sure those jobs are city jobs, well at least the waste management is. I'm pretty sure he is excluded from any state/city jobs. I would really appreciate any info that could be provided.

What good jobs are available for a convicted felon?
Let me tell you; your brother is going to have to put in TWICE the number of applications because of his felony conviction. Once you get to that spot of: "Have you ever been convicted of a felony..." on the application, this will be a deal killer in a recession! Employers can 'pick and choose', which doesn't help those trying to get their lives back on track after serving time.

Best tips: 1) He contact his former Parole Officer and ask him/her for some job leads. Employers often work with Parole Agencies IF the ex-offender takes the time to work WITH his PO, rather than against them. I was just in a PO office recently, and there were a few job flyers and handouts from churches that had job related information...and the information wasn't being 'picked up' by the ex-offenders. NO ONE is going to hand you a job...especially if you have 'baggage' in your background. Your brother is going to have to pound the internet and the streets...and NOT get discouraged.

2) Check with the local state unemployment bureau. They have listings as well and your brother could see if he can take advantage of their free job training services. A lot of ex-offenders don't know how to put together a resume, or a cover letter. They need to humble themselves, and learn.

Lastly, your brother NEEDS to be in a Bible believing church. Not only will Jesus Christ %26amp; Bible preaching steel his spine, as he grows in the church, he will be able to share his needs with people who can refer him to the 'job underground'. A lot of newspapers don't list as many jobs as they used to, and are in a recession of their own. My hometown paper ONLY runs 'want ads' twice a week, Sundays and Wednsdays (and repeats for the suburban papers on Fridays.)

The BEST job for a convicted felon? Any one he can GET based upon his background and training.
Reply:It's hard enough for a non-felon to get a good job let alone with a record but surely the department of corrections has contacts with employers. There are jobs/companies that earn tax credits for employers to hire ex-cons so it's important to find them. My advice is to start with Dept of Corrections and then United Way Services and then any local one-stop employment center in your area. He's got to own up to the mistakes of the past and move forward. There's life after prison but it's not an easy one.

Jobs for Uni students in Canada?

Hi, I'm planning to go to Vancouver this summer %26amp; find a summer job there. Does anybody know how hard it is to find a temporary job there? Is it better to look for jobs on the Internet before I arrive or after? I would like to work as a receptionist, an assistant or in an office - do you think it's possible? I'm an Uni student, from Europe and fluent in 3 languages including English. Do you think I have the qualities to get a better (paid) job than let's say washing dishes? It's gonna be my first time to work alone abroad so I'm a little scared :-) Thanks

Jobs Problem (please respond with wisdom)?

Hey guys I am really down and out, I can't find a job that ever works for me. I just got fired from my job tonight at as a late night grocery stocker which was terribly fast paced anyway and I wanted to quit so bad. I've been through a lot of jobs but I can't seem to find the one that works for me. I've been a telemarketer (too much stress and preassure to sell), worked in factories and grocery stores (too fast paced), done data entry typing (which was good but I'm moving to Toronto soon and apparently you need to know keystroke 1-10 which i don't), fast food and nursing home food prep (hated both and moved on) and a few non-sales positions which were nice, I would call buisnesses and ask if they used credit cards then asked if they take american experss and hang up, easy. I liked that position a lot. Do you guys have any suggestions on what I should take up that would fit into a person like me. I don' have a liscesnce, want to be alone, and don't care if the job is repedaive/but slow!

Jobs Problem (please respond with wisdom)?
James,

You are very honest,

and clearly state what

you like and do not like.

Most wouldn't.

You are half way there

simply by knowing what

you don't and do like,

so now, do some soul

searching, and figure

out why they let you go

from the jobs you liked.

Once you figure that,

improve, and make

an effort, so it does

not happen again.

Is keystroke 1-10

very difficult to learn?

Sounds that could be

the answer.

Try, and don't

give up.

Good luck!

Abert Einstein almost failed school. Thomas Edison was considered lazy in his youth. George Washington Carver ( a slave) was too sickley to work as a youngster. they had one thing in common, that you don't express in your question. They wanted knowledge, sounds like you want easy money. So, going to school to learn a trade seems to be out. You need to forget Canada, or anywhere that get's cold. It takes money to stay warm, unless you live in the far south. You could be a beach comer, nice easy paced work. If you know how to swim, life guard. Car sales takes no effort to know anything of value, just an easy way of talking, and standing around looking bored. There are tales that beggars can make 50 to 60 thousand a year. So you have lots of choices, oh yes, stay in the States and get on welfare.Good Luck for the future.
Reply:Since you seemed to have liked data entry typing, I would suggest that you take the time to either learn 1-10 keystroke on your own (buy a typing program that includes it) or take a class that teaches typing with that format. You already know you can type so adding a few more keys shouldn't be all that difficult. It's less work than learning a completely new job and there are enough data entry positions around that you shouldn't have a problem finding one in Toronto.
Reply:Ever look into the military? I joined after I quit (almost fired) from my night grocery stocker job. Good chance for you to recieve free education, training, and insurance. I would highly recommend it especially if you are single.
Reply:maybe you should go back to school and get a better education in a area that you would enjoy working in.
Reply:I'd suggest real estate. It's worth your time to get your license, and anyone can do it. You have to be on the ball, but it's really not a high pressure job if you're self employed or working for the right company. There is always good money in real estate. You don't even have to be that good of a salesman, but it couldn't hut if you are.

little or no stress! if no guests---you watch tv.

you may have to fold the occasional towel---but being a night auditor seems right up your alley!

i used to work with a gal who worked her way through college doing the night auditor stuff. she would stay up all night at the hotel and do her homework--when she got off work she'd go to class--then go home and crash.

i'd go for it!

Jobs For College Students That Pay Well?

Hi. I am an 18 year old community college student in his first semester. I graduated high school in earlier this year.

All my friends have minimum paying jobs like a Jamba Juice or Abercrombie.

At times when I sit here in my room I think about getting a job that can pay better than the jobs my friends have. My friends dont have anything to put down on their resume but I feel I do providing that i started and ran my own ebay business starting at the age of 15.

What are some jobs that I could possibly get that would be fun, pay well and not distract me from my studies?

Thanks!

Jobs For College Students That Pay Well?
i have been searching for such a job for the last 6 years of my college life.... haven't found that ideal job. what you are asking for doesn't exist. because if it was that great of a job, it WILL distract from your studies! the best way to get through college is by having such remedial jobs. they also serve as a distinct motivation for continuing with college %26amp; getting a GREAT job.

i suggest continuing with the ebay business because you can work as YOUR schedule allows and add %26amp; drop hours as YOU need to. things come up in college, and it really does help to have a flexible schedule.
Reply:im a teller at a credit union and im a full time student at a univ...good pay, good benefits, and flexible with schedules. and i do my hw all the time and they don't care as long as i don't like ignore the members.
Reply:If stripping is out of the question, try something unionized like supermarket employees, or a security guard (you can study at night).
Reply:You kind of went ahead of me when you mentioned the ebay business. I was going to tell you that your friends should be running a small business with the small saving they've accumulated. Especially in there second year. It will prepare them for the agressive nature of bargaining in reality. You did the right thing with ebay, but going out into the hands on world and demanding to be taken seriously will both make you more money and build you confidence on a daily basis.

Outside of that call centers pay a decent amount compared restaurants and offer part time hours often.
Reply:I don't know about putting these jobs on your resume, but there is the potently to make some money and you won't even have to leave your room or wherever your computer is. A fun and easy way to make money. If you want to check it out the websites are:

Jobs??/ plz help!?

i need ideas and help to find a job...i am a sophomore in college andi want to get a part time job that only works weekends. (i do not care if its 12 hours a day) what kind of jobs can i get? and does anyone know of any .... i live in north New Jersey (near newark) really really need a job! (i rather it not be in a store though...not to good with that)

Jobs??/ plz help!?
The best weekend jobs, and I would seriously consider, are sports referees. They work usually Saturdays and Sundays and make roughly 40-50 bucks an hour. I was able to buy my car with twenties. All you need is a 4 hour training to get registered (and a passing grade on an easy quiz).
Reply:Hi, I am from www.al-won.com, our company can offer you part time job. You just need to sell our products on line whenever you have time. Surely the chinese designer bags, nike sneakers, new soccer jerseys, tennis racket, Polo T-shirts in our online store can sell easily on eBay and any other aucation site. You can get easily 1000usd a week. Wholesale price is really low for all our sales represtatives. Jobs that nobody else wants, huh?

I've several email reply's refering to the question I posed(illegal's only take the jobs nobody want's, so the job's just came out of no where then?) I live in AZ and let me tell you something, we have no farms out here. I'm tired of hearing that excuse. They are taking our construction job's, maintance job's, working at spanish speaking only stores out here!!!! Even the chinese and japanese spoke some english!!!!

Jobs that nobody else wants, huh?
The unemployment rate in this country is a whopping 4%. Anyone who is even slightly motivated can get a job. YES- they do fill jobs that no one else will do, and they are a necessary part of our strong economy.
Reply:now they are going to say that is becuase they work harder,,they fail to mention they no backtaxes and no worker laws for illegals thing
Reply:They are taking both jobs and money away from Americans. These so-called "jobs that American's won't do" arguements are garbage. America's unemployment rate is around 4% and according to some estimates, illegals make up about 4% of the population. Get rid of the illegals and unemployment would be nonexistent. The problem with these jobs that illegals are taking is that while and American can not be employed for under minimum wage (approx. $70/day) illegals take these jobs for $50 or even $25 a day. If these jobs payed a decent wage you can bet Americans would do them. Illegals also effect wage scales in entire industries by lowering the rate legitimate workers can make.
Reply:BS - Americans do want the jobs!

I know blacks who can't get jobs because illegals get paid under the table.

+
Reply:No the jobs didn't come from nowhere but I think some (not all) Americans believe they are too good to be working those jobs, they think they deserve something better, a job is a job! So they're excuse is "They're taking all our jobs!" Gimme a break! I agree anyone who is motivated can get a job!

Jobs for the Disabled?

Hello everyone. I am 18 years old and have Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy. I'm not wheelchair bound but cannot stand for extended lengths of time. Due to this, I'm having trouble finding a job where I can work enough hours without becoming worn out. I'm hoping to move out into an apartment soon but I need to get a job where I can work full time. If anyone can post any ideas for jobs, work at home jobs, or government assistance I can receive I'd greatly appreciate it.

Jobs for the Disabled?
Try Wal Mart or any of the bigger chains of supermarket. They all make concessions for folks with disabilities. They have chairs that you can sit on if you become a cashier and they use wheelchairs if you can't stand for long periods of time. I've seen many wheelchairs being used by Wal Mart employees just because they can't stand for long periods of time. Good luck hon.
Reply:Good luck, however, I haven't seen any wheelchair bound Wal-Mart employees. I sucked at the interview so I didn't get a job at Wal-Mart but I've seen at least two even more disabled people working there than I was. Report It

Reply:Perhaps something in telemarketing or a call center I think they pay very well and you can sit the whole time.
Reply:If you are a really good talker and can think fast on your feet (so to speak), maybe a telemarketing job would be the best bet for you. You have to come up with things to say to counter a potential customers objections as to why they won't buy something from you over the phone, such as: "I have to talk to my wife or husband first" or "Sorry I just can't afford it"
Reply:You don't say where you are? Are you considering any further education? College, university?

Try visiting www.eSight.org, there are jobs posted there but they also have numerous resources on job hunting, entrepreneurship.

Most working from home jobs usually are scams or pyramid multilevel marketting schemes, although not all.

Have you been assessed by vocational rehab? Does the MD society help in getting you post secondary training or job training?

Lots to think about I'm sure .

You might look into ssdi if you are American, or if Canadian your provincial disability allowance program.

But try to find some kind of employment before having to go on assistance .

Good luck.
Reply:walmart has jobs that you can set down if you need to but im not sure what they pay.
Reply:Hope these job websites beneficial to you.

Are there any jobs for proof readers or editors at entry level? Looking for a fun temp job, pay doesn't matter

I'm taking a little time off from my 9-5 job. However, I don't want to just sit around and do nothing. I was wondering if you guys knew of any fun, easy jobs out there.

I heard there are people who get to read and/or proofread novels and such and get paid. What exactly is that job called, and where would I inquire about something like that? I am still working on my degree, so it would have to be something that requires only some college.

If you guys don't know about that, are there any fun jobs out there you might be able to recommend? I don't care at all about pay, just so long as there is pay lol. I'm fairly proficient in art, I have a Realtor license, I'm a loan officer, and I graduated from SinoPharm School of Pharmacy and Medicine. I have 5 years of work experience. I speak 3 languages fluently, 5 proficiently.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, please be specific, job title, company, any info would greatly help. Thank you!

Are there any jobs for proof readers or editors at entry level? Looking for a fun temp job, pay doesn't matter
The job is called editing. Usually editing and proofreading requires an ENGLISH or Journalism degree, or an editing qualification of some sort. Try doing Desk Top Publishing, that will help.

Book publishing is VERY hard to get into. You usually have to know someone to get in. But a job as an editor for a business is more doable - provided you have the required experience.

I too thought about doing such work - but there were so many prerequisites regarding english and grammar courses, that I changed my mind.

Why no salary jobs for top sales guy ?

Why are all sales jobs commission only?

I've always been one of the top sales people where ever I've worked, what ever the product.

I am motivated by doing the job right and being the best. I'll do that on every call or client or account. it don't matter if its performance pay.

I've always gotten a kick out of jobs that advertise "Unlimited Earning Potential!" most people in the business that I know looking for work will always laugh at those jobs, and DELETE them.

I've had my resume out there for about two months, and willing to relocate almost anywhere. So far about 30 insurance companies, 6 advertising companies and more fly-by-night others than I remember. NONE of these companies offered a base salary!

I don't want to make $475,000.00 per year from my 9-5 job, I'm a realistic guy. just be honest with me. I have investments that will make me rich some day, I just want cash flow and security. In turn I will bring them great results.

WHERE ARE THE GOOD SALES JOBS ???

Reply:If you're a top producer, why are you worried about it? Just smile and cash those huge commission checks. Salary is for newbies who are afraid of failure. That isn't you, is it?
Reply:If you are a top seller we need you ,go to this site and fill out the survey www.GardenHoldings.com.

Most if not all of them would have a sales quota.

You can usually negotiate a base salary in your interview process.

If the job you apply for only offers commission then this is a place that only wants sharks that can make it on their own.

PArt Time JOBS?

So i know that everywhere is different according to pay... but I am desperatly in need of a job! What are some part time jobs that are fun, and good pay! i used to work at a Brusters ice cream store but i moved west and there aren't any brusters out here... i was thinking about a job at COldstones, but it doesn't pay well at ALL!

Please help, my parents are getting mad because i don't have a job, and heck, i really rather not be broke any longer!

So , please if you have a part time job at a clothing store, resturant, fast food place and it is good pay and not to horribly unbareable, let me know! THANKS!

PArt Time JOBS?
Well one place that I know is usually hiring out where I am is grocery stores and most fast food restaurants. Try combing the mall one day and seeing if any of the stores are hiring!
Reply:I know kids that created their own gigs by doing something as simple as charging a flat fee for picking up the doggy-poo from people's yards twice a week... 10 houses at $10 a week can be really good money.

You can supplement that by walking dogs, babysitting, and other stuff like that.

What services can you render on a contract basis like that? Get creative. Put together a little flyer and walk around the neighborhood and introduce yourself.

My hubby gets decent jobs and then quits them sitting at home for months at a time with no job and no income.?

It is my fault that he cant keep a job. If I could work rather than stay home and stay with the kids then he wouldn't feel so overwhelmed. But when i suggest to look for a job even though i am handicapped and leave to put in applications the kids are crying, not been fed etc. So he moved his mother in with us. His mom was suppose to help she didn't. I am now her full time maid, but while she won't help me she supports everything her son says. He wants to quit his job again. We relocated because he exhausted all the jobs in a large city area. She supports him etc. I know the signs and I know he is getting frustrated with the work place he wants it all to be perfect adn he's always the victim played so well. He won't accept that everyone's job involves dealing with a jerk supervisor who has his favorites and my hubby isn't one. How can I get him to understand that a job is important. No matter as long as his mom supports him to his face and backstabs him he won't learn.

My hubby gets decent jobs and then quits them sitting at home for months at a time with no job and no income.?
OK I'm quoting the Bible here. Timothy 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. An infidel is someone who doesn't believe in God.

He needs to get off his *** and get to work and enjoy the fact that he has a job regardless of how imperfect it may make his day. Waaah!

How the hell can you be concerned about how ovverwhelmed he is. You are the one who is taking care of the kids and his Mom and earning a living and no telling what else. He is being a parasite. A parasite is an animal that lives off the blood of another. It doesn't do anything except sit there and draw blood. Ask your husband if he is considered to be a guest in the house or someone with responsibility. This guy pisses me off. I don't have anyone to take care of but myself. I wish I had a family that I could take care of them and they could take care of me. But I don't know if that will ever happen. It makes me sick when people don't appreciate what they have.
Reply:Talk to him about all the jobs he has had and ask him if he really thinks a different job is going to be different. It sounds to me like he doesn't like the idea of doing what it takes to do a job. Supervisors have a lot of pressure to get things done a certain way with a certain amount of labor. Often know the job but they are given no training on how to get people to do it. This leads to, well you know what it leads to.

There is nothing you can tell your husband. Let me say it again, There is nothing you can tell your husband. You can only ask questions that lead him to come to your conclusion--that he should just stay. He already knows this, just lead him to it. Think of your questions and think of how he will try to squirm out of answering them. Think of your response to that squirming all ahead of time so you aren't caught off guard.

I agree with the people ahead of me too.
Reply:How exactly is it your fault he can't keep a job? What overwhelmes him the fact that you cleaned the house and took care of the kids or the fact that he is a loser and trying to make you feel useless. Or it could be the fact nay he's just a loser get rid of him. It doesn't seem like he helps out so what do you need him for. The kids would just "overwhelm him". I am sorry you have such a self-serving husband, maybe he would grow up but mom is there to keep him in the rut he is in.
Reply:id say kick him to the curb till he can learn to grow up and not rely on mommy to support him, once we get old enough to hold a job we should support ourselves, if im not working or supporting my kids in some way or another i go fookin nuts, quite literally, but one thing i have to say is, if i am not working i do help with the house and with our 3 kids :)

AsH
Reply:first of all, it's not your fault. second, kick him and his mother out. tell him to come back when he can get a job and keep it. worked for me.
Reply:Lots of luck. Sounds like hubby demands the world to work on his terms and when reality crashes in, he doesn't deal with it in a healthy manner. Mom is apparently an enabler, so basically it sucks to be you.
Reply:sounds like your husband is just another big kid....time you either left or told him things have got to change fast or you will leave....his mother should also hit the road, she sounds like a very narrow shallow lady and not someone you need in your home.....he wants to play victim hey well leave him and let him be the victim of his stupidity and ignorance
Reply:I can't see how any of this is your fault. Tell him he needs to be more reliable because you can't keep moving every time he exhausts all the job leads in a particular city. If jobs were fun, they wouldn't have to pay us to go to them. And tell him his mother either needs to move out or you're going to go get a job of your own.
Reply:Gosh,, you have put up with this for a long time.

I dont know how you do it.

You can't change the man. You can only change yourself. You need to make a decision of what you need to do.

sounds like your husband is still a little boy and it is time for him and his mom to set up a house hold together and stop mistreating you and the kids.
Reply:Time for a reality check! It is not *your* fault your husband cannot keep a job. Get the mother out of the house, she is not helping you. You and your husband need to sit down and hash out where your priorities should lie. Yes, life has dealt you a tough hand. If you believe you cannot rise above it, you are right. If you believe you can get through this, you are right. My father, a very wise man, always said, "don't let a poor boss be the reason you do not succeed at your job". I think your husband needs a reality check on life. If he's so smart, why isn't he rich?? The victim role he plays will only hurt him and you.

Jobs that need to be filled?

Basicially, I want to know specific jobs that are in need of more people (so it'd be easier to job hunt after college, I'm in high school right now).

Example: Architects are wanted more than ever right now because of the population growth and the need of housing. [I made this up.]

If it matters, I plan to live in Chicago, IL. I'm not interested in the medical field at all nor am I strong in mathematics, but feel free to tell me anything you can think of. The pay should be... decent? I'm not sure what decent is, but I'm guessing around 30k.

And don't put down any 12 hour, labor jobs please (ie. Construction). I'm not going waste all my schooling just so I can break my back. Also, please don't say anything such as, "you should get into a job you're passionate about." Thing is, I don't know what I like, so I'm exploring. Thank you for reading and thank you very much if you decide(d) to answer.

Good luck!

Reply:Get a nice, general degree, like a Bachelor of Arts. This will open up a lot of doors. You won't necessarily find work in an area you study in, either. I did a degree and now work in a completely different field because I like manual labour jobs. I chose to do a job like this because I don't like stress.

Keep your options open.
Reply:Whatever you do, I suggest going to college for more than four years, get a Masters in something, if not a higher degree. Unless you get a bachelors in some kind of egineering. Engineering is good stuff.

Other than all that; if you dont know what you're passionate about then what do you like to do with your free time? What would you like to do, what would be interesting to do? What would be intersting to learn more about? What do you daydream about doing? There's an infinate list of careers, but you just asked an infinate amount of people what to do; and we've never met you.

Video game design, acting, writing, electrical engineering, architecture, etc.

By the way, Einstein wasn't good at math. So, think less of what your stong suites are and think more of what you wouldn't mind doing for the rest of your life.
Reply:Its hard to get by on 30k.....have you considered a job in law enforcement maybe as a police officer, probation or corrections officer. Depending on the state, the salary and benefits can be decent. But you should be drug free and have good ethics. I am in this field and make over $50,000 a year.
Reply:You must be living in an off reality world. Because I know college graduates with bachelor's degrees flipping burgers at McDonald's because the job market just isn't happening with some brilliant louse out sourcing the jobs to India because it's cheaper. At this point, I would seriously recommend going into law enforcement. Plenty of jobs there for an over acheiver looking to climb as fast as his/her skills can take them.
Reply:they are offering lot of job oppertunities for job seekers

try it once and best of luck
Reply:See your school's career counselor. 30k is not "decent" today. I made that 19 years ago fresh into graduate school (as a graduate assistant) in the midwest. Set your sites higher. You'll only go as far as you dream. Good luck.
Reply:Since you are still in high school you might want to consider a college that allows you to take your required courses first before declaring a major in your second or third year. You could have a chance to learn about many different subjects and perhaps find one you like best.

If you have a few career paths you are interested in, contact some professionals in your community and see if you can "shadow" them for a few days. You'd get a chance to see first hand what people in this profession do on a regular basis and if it is something you could see yourself doing for many years.

I disagree with the statement about not taking a job you are passionate about. When my husband went to school for computer programming in the late 1980's everyone told him he was making a mistake, there were too many people in the profession, etc. Well, it's how many years later, he still loves what he does, is working in the computer programming field and makes a nice salary.

Jobs if you never had work experience how are you suppose to get it?

you know when you job search the neighborhood you see experience cook how do you get experience as a cook when you cant get a job as a cook it crazy its frustrating I was always told growing up there's a first for everything The egg came before the chicken I live in Buffalo NY too not a good place when it comes to job searching they lack. no work experience except temp jobs for light industrial. it sucks.

Jobs if you never had work experience how are you suppose to get it?
you might have to apply for another job at the same place then work your way up. for example i had to start out as a dishwasher because i had no experience after a couple of weeks i told them i wanted to cook and they said yes
Reply:Check for opportunities to do volunteer work. Any work you do as a volunteer can go on your resume just like a paying job.
