I ride at this stable in Tennessee and I have been riding with them for awhile. I am an experienced rider, and they trust me to help them teach kids and help out around the stable doing jobs, that kind fo thing. The only thing is, they never have payed me... they just see me the stables hanging out whenever I come (its like a second home for me) and say, "hey, how are you" and that kind of thing, then put me to work. I really dont mind most of the time and enjoy being there, but sometimes I feel like they are taking advantage of me by always expecting me to do jobs. As i said i am friends with them and its like a second home for me, so i cant just straight up ask them "pay me or im not coming"
However, I WOULD like to get some $... especially since i dont have a job and i am 15. I thought since i spend so much time there, it would be good to get some lunch $ out of it. However, I dont want to ruin my relationship with the stables and have them think i just want $! What should I do?!
Jobs... how do I get them to actually PAY me for my free work???
well you did the wrong thing the first time...you offered for free, by not asking for money, now they think you'll always do it for free...(and the word is paid)...ask nicely if they will pay you for some of the work you do, don't demand. If not...then leave and don't go back...or else you're back in the same spot you keep puting yourself in...
Reply:At 15 it's illegal to employ you thus you can't get paid. What I suggest you do is ask them to compensate you for your time by giving you a token sum of money each time you help out. Remember, you enjoy what you're doing and the place is like a second home to you thus the last thing you want to do is blow it up. Be nice and ask nicely. I'm sure they'll understand where you're coming from and will compensate you accordingly.
Reply:Tell them you are looking for some part time work, and that you would really like a job as a stable helper, or whatever it would be called. It really is likely that they started asking for your "help" as a kindness and it just sort of got to this point without them thinking about it. Just be straight with them, they more then likely are not intentially taking advange of you.
Reply:I think that you should tell them that you love working for them and would like be hired as an employee. Bring in a resume and ask for a job application.
You don't have to give them an ultimatum (..pay me, or else!).
If you asking something like that of them would compromise your friendship, then they aren't really your friends anyway!
Never undervalue your hard work and effort!
Reply:Talk to them about it, it coudn't hurt. Maybe your both on the same page and don't even know it.
Best of luck, oh and try this website http://easymoneymakingcareer.blogspot.co...
if your looking to make some extra cash as the teen. Good luck
Reply:You should give them 110% then maybe they will pay you but if that does not work just ask them calmly saying something like this: "Um, guys I really need some lunch money and was wondering if I could get payed for some of my work cause i really need it badly."
