Bad to change jobs every 2 years?

I seem to get bored of my life and jobs every 2 years...

I've only had 2 since highschool 5 yrs ago. I quit the first after 2 years due mostly to stress (it was with horses and they weren't treated well and I couldn't save them, plus I got frustrated w/the ppl I worked with cuz they were all drunk drug addicts...) and now I'm a vet assistant and I LOVE animals but find I'm bored of my job .. I feel like I'm not learning more and I hate answering phones/dealing with b*tchy clients (so many!) AND I can't work in a team setting anymore cuz I am the one always doing all the work! So again, frustrated with co-workers.

Is it my intolerance to people that makes me want to switch jobs so frequently or could it be that I actually get bored of jobs and want change... Cuz I feel it's a bit of both but sometimes that it's more the people..

Also does it look bad on resumes that a person changes jobs every 2 years? (Or is it OK if you're young? Like 23??)AGH

Bad to change jobs every 2 years?
Prospective employers expect young people to have a few different jobs but say you were 40 and you were still doing it every two years, you would probably be passed over unless it was a high skill job.

If you realize that you are powerless over people, places things and situations and accept that fact it will be easier to work in an environment where there is a lot of slackers.

You must pace yourself so you don't do all the work or those slackers will have a slave doing their work.

If you feel it is necessary to leave each time it gets boring you will set a life pattern that will be hard to break later.

Better to apply for more challenging jobs or go back to school to raise your own skill levels so it is not boring.
Reply:It does look pretty bad on resumes that you switch jobs that much. To employers, it's a sign of a bad employee, no commitment, or that you're not stable. They'll feel like they cant rely on you.

You should probably take a minute and consider what you really want to do. Maybe instead of being a vet assistant, you should be a vet... Or look into another career that may catch your interest.
Reply:Hmm. Tough one. Your still young and it's ok for you to have lots of jobs. It shows that you can have an array of skills. But having to many jobs on your resume is bad. Because it shows that you are unstable. Maybe you should try going back to school and taking some classes.
Reply:I think it is ok when your young but I would stop job hopping at 26-28 after that and employers don't want to hire you because they don't want to invest in someone they don't expect to stay around. Are you a Gemini or something?

Gemis change there minds often.
Reply:If I were an employer, it would concern me that you were changing jobs every two year. You said it yourself when you said you get bored. I would want to hire an employee that was going to stick around for longer than two years.
Reply:I don't think it looks bad at all - better to be employed in a job than on unemployment benefits bumming around!

Be prepared though that potential employers may see it differently. Have an answer ready as to why you've changed positions every couple of years i.e. you wanted more challenge; etc. Don't go into the politics behind it as it will make you look whiny even if you're just being honest.

I think it's hard for young people to decide on a career and stick to it. Your present job sounds interesting in one respect but horrid in another!

Are there any other careers that interest you? What do your friends and family do? Maybe get onto seek or careerone.com and have a browse at what's out there. See if anything piques your interest. If you need to study, go for it. You only live once and you've still got another 40 years of working life ahead of you (sorry!).

Good Luck.
Reply:The BLS says its common to switch every 2.3 years, at least for baby boomers. And I've heard that younger folks job hop a lot more. Some career experts recommend it as a way to advance your career.

But it can make your résumé look bad, especially to third party job search agents. It makes you look flakey.

Also, once you reach a certain age, you're automatically less employable. 35-45, thereabouts. Health insurance issues are one of the issues. After a while, try to find your job and stay there.
Reply:I myself have had 4 jobs since high school and had 1 year of college..I have not been at any job longer than 3 years...and am coming up on my 2 year anniversary on this job (am a truck driver), and would like to quit cause it just doesn't seem for me anymore, but I LOVE my paycheck and am staying for that....maybe I will hit the lottery soon so I can quit..lol..oh yea I am only 27 and been out of high school for almost 9 years.

I haven't had a problem getting jobs either...still not sure what I want to do...
