Popular Jobs in the late 1700s to early 1800s?
Farming, tinker, tailor, grocer, baker, veternarian, cobbler, weaver, iron worker, brickmaker, potter, doctor, wagon maker, carriage maker, milliner, dressmaker, cook, scullery maid, housemaid, butler, clerk, carpenter, general laborer, barrister, wagon/carriage driver, footman, builder, tin maker, priest, alms house worker, prison guard, constable, tobacconist...anything pre-industrial revolution.
Reply:Agriculture was the major business and it was labor intensive. If the position of employment was respected, then the oldest son inherited it. So the younger sons had to be apprenticed to other forms of employment such as doctors, teachers, legal counsel, the military.
