What types of jobs are out there that are similar to that of Dirk Pitt (played by Matthew McConaughey) in Sahara. He is an adventurer/explorer/treasure hunter. Does anybody know of jobs like this that provide a great deal of travel, adventure, excitement and danger? I will serve 4 years in the Marines after college, but after that I want a job that will allow me to travel the whole world in a rewarding way. Any suggestions? Thanks
Some of my thoughts...type of pilot, cia officer, travel writer, war correspondent, explorer of some type, extreme tourism/sports job, traveling missionary work, foreign legion...etc.
Feel free to elaborate on the above, add your own, or both
Jobs in real life like "Dirk Pitt" from the movie Sahara?
DIrk Pitt was not an independent archeologist.
Dirk Pitt is a character from a series of books by Clive Cussler, they editted the actual governmental association out of the role for this movie, but when Dirk Pitt was shown in the movie "Raise the Titantic" (also based on a Clive Cussler novel) he was a government employee working for an organization called NUMA. This is also the job of the character in the novels, including the novel "Sahara".
It is doubtful that many jobs with the actual excitement of a Dirk Pitt or James Bond actually exist in life. The best you can do is find a job that offers you opportunities for fulfillment and time to travel. Your idea of extreme tourism is probably not a bad idea. I own a travel agency, and it is becoming more common for people to want more exciting adventures outside their own country. You could take people rock climbing in Peru, and white water rafting in rivers around the world. Take people on safaris. The key would be making contacts through other travel organizations, and then setting up an organization to get clients to you. This is easier with the internet.
I wish you luck.
