Manufacturing jobs in Houston?

I need to know where in Houston I can find a decent job in a factory. I am 19 and, being that I'm not fit for college, I need a job; but most jobs that don't require a college degree (like an ordinary worker at a fast-food resturaunt) only pay like $12,000 per year: That's barely enough to afford even the most basic things!

Can someone please tell me where in Houston I can find a manufacturing job that would pay at least $30,000 per year? Would they hire someone with just a high school diploma who's 19? All I've found so far are job-seekers' websites that just want to take my money. Also, if you could provide any advise or suggestions on the subject, I would like that, please.

Contact some union halls or the petro-chemical plants directly, they are now offering alot of apprenticeship programs as trained workers are in high demand.

Something else that might work for you is working for the county or local water districts.

Use a search engine and find the TWUA(Tx Water Utility Assoc.) or the TRWA (Tx Rural Water Assoc.). Both websites have links to jobs.

Most water operations will send you to classes that allow you to earn licenses. The more licenses, training and experience you get, the higher the pay.

Water industry is not going anywhere. As long as humans exist, there is a need for clean drinking water. Many water jobs are goverment and have great benefits.

This hardest part is the first year or so due to starting wages not being high. Hang in there and earning 30k a year within 4 years is very possible.

There are a ton of small water districts and operating companies that run them. Many have no websites. Search online for Water Companies. Southwest Water is a big one.

Working at a water company will teach you many trades besides just water.

You will not find an entry level job that pays 30K a year. Expect to earn about 8-10 dollars an hour, entry level, which is about 18-20K a year. But hang in there and you can expect to be earning 30K within a few years. Plus your licenses and experience will prep you for higher pay at other employers.

Good Luck!
Reply:You might be better off posting this in the local business thread for Houston:

Houston is the home of the oil and gas industry. While you might not find a whole lot in manufacturing, see about getting on with an oil services company. Some do train entry level personnel.

Do you have any kind of vocational training? If so, try that. Other than that, I can't think where you'd have the chance to make that kind of money at your age.

As for $12,000 a year, if you're living at home that's more than enough to live on, and making rent payments to the folks.
Reply:No. It won't.

People at age 21 with a college education can't even make that much in Houston. Even soldiers barely make about that pay.

I know it sounds silly, but read the business section - especially on "business development" projects.

San Antonio has Microsoft, Ford, and alot more that can actually help you in this way. They're all new projects that may pay you that much in the manufacturing biz.

Houston will have a ton of Manufacturing jobs - its a growing city. Just find something that's "new" like the Ford plant or GM plant or something like that.

Best of luck to you.
