Air Force Jobs?

I've enlisted in the Air Force and went through MEPs. When I sat down with one of the recruiters we talked about available jobs. I found one that seemed interesting and I signed up for it, the job being Aerial Gunner. Afterwards I was told that I could take a test to see if I would be eligible for for a Linguist job. I took the test, and scored fairly well. But unfortunately I've already been signed in for Aerial Gunner. My recruiter told me that every month they get an alloted amount of jobs given to them, and if Linguist was one of them, he's switch me. I've been waiting three months now, and there have been no linguist jobs so I've decided it's a lost cause. I am going to be sent out March 18th 08' and I was told recently that if I finish Basic Training and tell one of my superiors my situation that I may be able to find a linguist job right out of BMT and switch over. Is this true???

If your score on the dlab is good enough,





They will let you switch during basic, if there are any openings.
Reply:Your drill instructors wont give a damn what you particular situation is. Thats why you have all of this decided before you report to basic training. No BT commanding officer will alter your contract just because you want to. Your only hope is that your recruiter can change it before you ship out, or you just happen to be "sick" when you report to MEPS.
Reply:i heard that most people flunk outta that school. (linguist). Just be aware of that. The recruiter im working with is also trying to convince me of that job. I am only interested in intelligence.
Reply:have your recruiter change that, dont let him trick you into going to basic training with a job you dont want. and if it doesnt happen and you dont want to go anymore, just say you want out.
Reply:yeah thats what my recruiter said too, he said that when you finish basic you sit down with another job counselor and pick from another list of jobs. i think if there are other jobs listed u could pick from them too but your def garenteed aerial gunner. thats a pretty sweet job i hear. i got garenteed mechanical field. i didnt even get a specific job garenteed. i kinda wish i did cause i dont know exactly wat ill be doing. but id like to do that as well, aerial gunner or maybe flight engineer. linguist huh thats pretty ambitious. im curious what did u get on your asvabs
Reply:Well, it all depends on whether you want action or not. Linguists won't see as much action as an aerial gunner, but you may be able to get a better job as a linguist with a government agency when you get out.
